Waiting for line to be activated

Hello all,

I have just called BT to activate my phone line in my new property - they say it'll be up to 11 days before the line is activated.

How long do I have to wait before I can get a MAC code from them?

you can req's a MAC code from your ISP anytime, it's valid for a month. however if you are still within the terms of your contract they may charge you the remaining months.

you shouldn't no, once the line has been activated they usually say wait 5 days before ordering b/band on it. this is to allow the number to register on all the various systems, but to be honest it's possible to order it a day or so after wards.

What do you want a MAC code for? This is a new broadband service on a new line surely? A MAC code is for moving between one broadband provider and another on an existing line. I believe you can order broadband (from whomever you choose) for your newly activated line after 5 days as Openreachpeep says - the new number has to propagate around the various systems so it could be sooner. If you try to order too soon then you will just be told your number doesn't exist!

If you already have broadband where you are now, and want to move the service to your new line (and stay with your current broadband provider) then speak to them to ask about transfer.

Either way, no MAC code needed.
