I have the Sony Ericsson w960i on O2. 18 month contract. Yesterday i got pushed into a swimming pool with it in my pocket and it is completely kaput. I have the standard insurance (£6 per month).

Im going to call the O2 insurance people tomorrow to sort out a new phone. However i have just noticed they no longer sell the w960i on their website, so i assume it has been discontinued. This actually works out ok for me as i HATED the phone (slow, glitchy, jog dial in a stupid position, crap touchscreen). I was wondering if anyone had any idea what i would be offered as a replacement? Are they likely to give me any choice? And will i have any bargaining power atall (i.e. pay a bit extra and get a blackberry?) or will they just offer me an 'equivalent' phone which i never chose and probably wont want?

Any advice much appreciated - I really dont want to be fobbed off with a shit handset when i phone them tomorrow.

Thanks

I'm sure they will oblige and give you the phone of your choice as there isn't really an equivilant Walkman phone at the moment..
I''m sure if you ask nicely you will get the blackberry..
Let us know how it goes

Insurance is all about indemnity, they can't make you better off than how you started. Or at least they shouldn't. But as someone said, if you ask nicely perhaps they'll allow you to pay the extra and get the blackberry. Who knows.

Can I point out that just because the phone isn't on the O2 website, doesn't mean that they wont be able to supply one. I don't know about your particular insurance policy, but many only provide like for like. That is, you may receive a refurbished handset.
