Hi,

I just bought a 40' Samsung 1080p TV and bought a HDMI cable with it too and want to get the best out of it.

So first I want a good sound system, anyone recommend a good 5.1 theatre system for under £200?

Cheers

can you up your budget to something that will have more connections or do you want something like a dvd player with speakers?

IF you can go up another £20 you can get a Sony HT-DDW890 which is an AMP and speakers.

I was hoping for a proper speaker system, I want the DVD player seperate unles it is an upscaling dvd player that can be region free hacked.

I came across this speaker system

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-HTDDW79...029319&sr=8-19

Opinions on that?

Or this one that comes with a DVD player that upscales, and I can afford the extra cost as I obviously won't have to buy a seperate dvd player.

Only question is can I get the sound to work with my tv, concoles etc as well? I want the speakers to work on everything if possible

Thanks for your help.

the Sony amp hasnt got HDMI

my advice is to save your money and get an amp with HDMI inputs and outputs. HDMI is the new scart.

The only problem with my recommendations is the price . The 605 is around £300 and the 606 is £350 to £400 and you need to buy speakers on top of that.

BUT the amp is the most important thing, and I recommend just buying cheap speakers to tide you over. With the HDMI version 1.3 capabilities it will future proof you for a long time. Thats why these packages are so cheap. No proper connectivity

605

The problem is the word good and £200 in the same sentence, no matter which budget system you are going to get it is never going to be good. A good system will cost you thousands an awesome system tens of thousands. But you only have a smaller budget, I would suggest dropping some of the new stuff from the list. Don’t worry about hdmi, you should be looking for sound quality only, while hdmi is ok you would be better off plugging the hdmi lead to the TV and just trying to get the best audio you can. Look at ebay for a second hand one it will not be the latest thing but you could end up with better sound quality that way.

I could wait for a couple of months if my budget is too low, by then I could probably go upto around £600, I'm not expecting anything fantastic but maybe it would be better to wait if you think 200 quid is too low.
