Problem with my Panasonic Diga DVD Recorder
My Panasonic DVD recorder sits there with 'Guide' displayed on the LED and you can't get it to do anything. You have to switch the power off and on, then it acts like normal. Then after any few minutes of inactivity it goes back to 'Guide' death. Any ideas what is wrong?

Also, if it says guide and you want to get on with things, try pressing the Standby then Guide buttons on the remote - works on mine but not my parents so not sure if it will work. |

I'll give it a try. the 'guide' is pretty much constant, though, so I suspect I have a problem.

Hi, my Panny DVD suffered the same.
Almost every morning, I woke to the display showing 'GUIDE' and it wouldn't come out of standby. Holding the power button on the front panel for 10 seconds usually wakes it up. Turning off the EPG Auto Update in the menu is a temporary fix. What's the model number of the unit? I'm guessing DMR-EZ27

This is what Panasonic have titled the 'Guide Lockup phenomenon' - not a fault!
Give Panasonic Customer Care a ring (0844-844-3852), and tell them you have 2 units that suffer from guide lockup. Have the model and serial numbers handy. They'll send you a firmware update disc for each unit, but it may take 2-3 weeks for it to arrive. Mines hasn't locked up since.

I think they stopped firmware downloads a while ago,
possibly due to the risk of corrupting the unit from a bad burn or using a cheap disc. I've heard that if you send them a blank disc and a model number and a stamped return envelope, they'll burn the latest firmware onto it for you to keep. Don't know if they're picky about the brand of disc, but the one they loaned me was an Impega CD-R. |
