I have been checking on o2 which is still showing as out of stock. So thought would check on the Apple site which had said would update after 9pm, this is the link http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/iphone/availability.html

All stores are showing they have stock so thought would double check, rang the Lakeside one as is open until 10pm and asked if they would have stock tomorrow. The guy I spoke to said we have stock now of the 8gb and the white 16gb, we have ran out of the black 16gb at the moment. He said the Apple stores seem to have plenty of stock.

I want to sign up online via o2 to get the quidco cashback, but if I have to wait too long might give in and go to Apple
If I do sign up via Apple store does anyone know if I will be billed by o2 rather than a third party?

Yes I was at the Lakeside store yesterday and they seem to have plenty of stock. they also have a team of agents dedicated to the sign-up process, so the queue moved quite quickly.

I dunno if they are acting as independents or you will be dealing direct with O2 (with regards to billing).

Because I didn't want it to get buried in a long thread, was trying to be helpful but that isn't allowed on this forum, why read an iPhone thread if you don't want one.

Oh it's ok I was teasing. But your logic is sound. Last place you'd wanna put anything iPhone specific is in an iPhone thread.

Well they arent lying but I went to The Apple Store in Regents Street to try to get one Sadly I was too late and they wouldnt let me join the queue - so thats tomorrows task I guess.

Quite why Apple have dumped these phones in their stores and not to O2 or CPW is really stupid in my opinion!

I will say that you cant just queue and purchase one in a few minutes - the queue is like 2 to 3 hours the guy informed me. So I was a little annoyed with that!

What time did you get there Halfnew? That store is the nearest to where I work so might end up going there if o2 don't get stock.

Hey,

Stupidly at 7pm which explains why they wouldnt let me join. I basically didnt go straight from work at 5:30pm... or I think I would have got in the queue.

I'm guessing that they take the worst case scenario of 2 or 3 hours and then as the store closes at 9pm they close the queue anytime after 6pm.

So I'm going to try to jump there before 6pm tomorrow just to be sure of being ok with it. You'll probably be in front of me in the queue

i don't think it's unreasonable to have stock in their own shops and since there are only 12 of them it wouldn't really make a lot of difference to send the stock to the many many o2 and cpw shops.

Am really going to try to hang on until o2 get more online as £35 cashback is hard to resist (normally quidco tracks fine with me). Good luck tomorrow Halfnew and let us know if you get one

Will do, the O2 and CPW stock is a joke though - neither seem to have a clue when they will actually get some in. As I want the £45 a month contract (and am still contracted to three for 4 months) £35 isnt a deal breaker for me as in the long run its less than a months contract

For your information I played with a HTC Touch Diamond and a Samsung Tocco and the iPhone blows them away!

If I was use I'd go to The Apple Store But not if it means you get the last one before me

There will be plenty of stock soon enough , once apple and 02 have milked the 'wii effect', the less stock available to the more it becomes desirable simple, my sister in law never played games heard the wii was unvailable and everyone was going on about it and tried to get one at xmas couldnt so wanted one even more she's now got one and it sits in her room doing nothing lol
What many people cant seem to see is the stock shortage was on purpose hence why most o2 stores only had about 5 of each model.

as for iphone versus htc diamond, thats your view not mine, the iphone's interface is pretty but the diamond is far far mor powerful phone.

On purpose by who? Apple or o2? They sold 1 million iphones over the weekend. They could have easily sold 2 million had all the stores had enough stock.

Companies always have a 'stock' shortage. It ramps up the hype. The same thing happens with XBox, Wii, etc when they are launched. It makes headlines, makes more people want one!

All iPhones get billed through O2 regardless of where you buy them I believe - my 2G iPhone is certainly done through O2 (online) and I bought mine in an Apple store (contract actually got set up when I got home and activated the iPhone via iTunes - though I believe this is at least partially done in store with the 3G version to avoid jailbreakers never starting a contract).

Unfortunately Apple stores can't process upgrades for existing iPhone customers so we are left having to wait for O2 to get enough stock. If you are getting an iPhone for the first time then the Apple stores are an ideal place to go (if you have one near).

The only thing that is getting to me is the fact that o2 and the CPW don't have a clue when new stock will be coming in. My friend who isn't with o2 currently went to the Apple store on Saturday but was turned away because they had none left. He phoned yesterday and the guy said there were still none in but a shipment was expected this morning, so he went early and indeed there was a shipment and he got one. If you call o2 all you get is lots of uummmm we can't say for sure when we will get more, they wont even confirm or deny what it reports on the website about getting new stock weekly. It is frustrating, I understand Apple looking out for themselves and the shops they run, but if they update their own shops so well, I would have thought o2 or CPW would have some info!!

I'm placing a small bet on o2 stores getting new stock tomorrow or thursday at the latest. I've no inside info, just what a store told me on Sunday. "Middle of the week" they said for next delivery of iPhones. I've a feeling it will all happen tomorrow.
