I know a few people here have got these sets, i've never been a Samsung fan but managed to get a brand new and sealed one of these through work for £377 so i'll tolerate it!

Sound quality has always been an issue on Samsung but I just wondered what exact settings everyone else uses to try and make the best of a bad situation?

Cheers.

My philosophy with the sound on the Samsung is 'keep it simple.' Trying to do anything fancy with the sound settings tends to show up it's short comings:

Mode: Standard
SRS ts xt: off
Auto volume: off

Not sure if the "R" has the sound Equaliser in the Menu like my "M" ?, if it has you can make a massive difference to the sound from the standard settings, especially if you rise the HF a little.

I believe the 'R' and 'M' probably have the same set-up options. You can use the Custom mode setting to save your own equaliser preferences.

It's probably a good idea to experiment to find out what works best for the room accoustics.

I gave up with my 37" M87 and got a home cinema system. It was not an expensive one ( around £200 ) but makes a massive difference to my HD viewing experience.

I'm not sure on these models, but a lot of Samsung sets have really poor quality sound, with the speakers pointing downwards, and being 3/4 blanked off by a deflecting plate to send the sound forwards through a small hole.

Haven't seen (or heard) the latest series but this is a 'characteristic' of all the previous flat panel Samsungs.

Yes the speakers on the "R" are the same, downfiring & very small, however they can be made to sound quite resonable for normal TV viewing with some tweaking in the Custom Equaliser. Obviously for normal TV use, I would not listen to a film without my Home cinema gear which in my case cost twice as much as the TV, so I don't think you should expect to much from the TV!

I recently brought a 26" Samsung R87 I think it is? second hand for the kitchen dinner and the sound is awfull! Unless I set the bass on the graphic to min and all the effects off. It's makes a horrible vibrating grating noise, I dont know if its the speakers that are knackered or something vibrating inside. It still has 2 years warranty left. Would I be wasting my time logging a service call or are these sets just like that? I have a Sony in the lounge and the sound on that other than being a little tiny is fine!
