I recently took an upgrade of an N95 8gb on o2. Phone works fine, no problems at all, however I'm guessing it's an unlocked handset as I had it from CPW and there were no web settings etc

These were sent from o2, so no problem there. However there's more than 1 access point setting that tye sent me, and when I go online I get a choice of:

o2 postpay WAP
o2 Mobile Web
o2 WAP GPRS
02 WAP GPRS Streaming
o2 Internet

The guy in the o2 store couldn't tell me the difference between any of them and couldn't tell me which would be best, if any at all. He did that annoying thing that phone sales staff usually do - he gave me all kinds of different answers, none of which were right or made sense. Why he couldn't have just admitted "I don't know" is totally beyond me.

The people in CPW were equally clueless.

I stress it's not affecting the phone in any way and some might ask why I'm bothered - well it's my phone and I want it working the way I want it to. At the moment I don't know if any of the above would be optimum for browsing, or if one would be faster than the other etc

Can anyone shed any light on it?

I'm not on O2 but i do have an n95-8gb:

the way it works on vodafone is that the 'internet' apn is a straight through internet connection as if you were connecting over your wifi or something, this is the best apn to use for email, ftp. any programmes that require an internet connection.

you can also use it in the browser. but wap APNs also work with the browser but these run the page through an optimiser and rewrite it to make it render better on a mobile display. it's a personal preference which you use. the wap apn will use less data and load faster but the phone is capable of rendering pretty much every page.

I had the same problem with my n95 8Gb, I found the most successful one in terms that some apps didn't work correctly with the other access points, was o2 postpay WAP. It's also the one I was advised to use by O2 as well. I use O2 Active (which I assume is O2 Internet on yours) sometimes if I'm browsing the web, but if an app asks for access, I choose o2 postpay WAP.

Use o2 Mobile Web on o2 xda orbit. It's all postpay settings on my handset. I use the o2 web bolt on also.

I think wap settings can charge 10p per min if you haven't got the right setting selected.

O2 WAP is for when you are browsing WAP pages . The Postpay is a duplicate. (The Streaming is for Streaming WAP). The Mobile Web is for when you use your phone as a modem. the O2 Internet is for web browsing on your phone and other internet applications.

Some examples, if you were accessing O2 Active, then use one of the O2 WAP. If you were using Opera Mobile or Gmail app then use O2 Internet.

On my n95 8gb I have "virgin gprs" and "virgin isp gprs" as well as "picturemessage" for my access points. I only use wifi at home and work but occassionally I use the bbc wap site while im out and about. As I dont have a data allowance which access point should I be using for the cheapest access to the bbc wap site and the like (I am aware that you can access the bbc site for free on wifi at mcdonalds and any other Cloud wifi hotspot..but im just interested in the correct wap access point here) Many thanks in advance.
