I have an unlocked jailbroken iphone.

My local O2 store confirms that I can take out a SIM only contract, and put it in the iPhone.

I had assumed that I would virginise it before putting it in my iPhone, and that it would then be a fully "legit", locked not-jailbroken iPhone, able to upgrade to ver 2 firmware via iTunes etc.

However, the O2 store says not so, once unlocked always unlocked, and that even with an O2 SIM I will have to use unofficial unlock/jailbreaks to go to firmware 2 (when available)

I think I have seen posts contradicting this, but can't find them again.

Anyone know what the facts are?

Thanks very much for any help

Mike

best option would be huck up to pc open iTunes and Restore (not update RESTORE)

cant comment if it will remain as a unlocked phone or not but if you update to 2.0 it should nock anything before it off as it has to reinstall from scratch as it uses new frameworks

Thanks both for quick replies. That link is the one I saw before but couldn't find.

Sounds encouraging. My main concern is that I used Ziphone to unlock/jailbreak and seems that this puts the bootloader to 3.9 from 4.6, unlike pwnage. Though at least one person said he had used Ziphone and it had worked. Anyway if I do a virginise does it wipe out previous versions of bootloader? It seems that I could put bootloader back to 4.6 with pwnage if I had to.

Thanks again
