Long texts on Virgin Mobile
Jose Cardoso
28-08-2003
Anyone else been having all sorts of odd problems sending long texts through Virgin Mobile?

In the past two months the majority of the long texts I've sent have arrived broken into bits or heavily delayed (despite a delivery report telling you otherwise). Single text messages have been delivered without problems. The same results occur when sending test messages to myself.

Virgin appear to be aware of the problem but have offered no solution. It's starting to become a tad annoying.

Ah... I think I've seen that problem as well. One of my friends is on Virgin and I get texts that seem to come over several texts (and not that quickly following). One last night came in over about a five minute period.

I don't send that many long texts on virgin (because i'm cheap) but my friend sent me one from O2 and i only got the second half.

So it isn't just me. At one point I was beginning to suspect my phone was faulty. I've tried sending long texts to various networks as a test and the problem is intermittent.

I wonder if Virgin's move to 3p text messages has brought them a whole load more problems than they first realised?

I doubt that, im not too bothered about long texts.. i just want GPRS!

And who's to say the extra activity hasn't prompted T-Mobile (the network Virgin Mobile uses) to fiddle around with certain settings? Just a theory mind you.

And I'll be more than happy when GPRS and MMS options arrive on Virgin but for now the ability to reliably send more than the standard 160 characters in a text message is more important.

I always had a problem with long texts on Virgin Mobile the whole year and a half I was with them, sending and receiving. Glad to see the back of them.
