hi!

just come back from jamaica and the food was delicious. the jamaican patties were beautiful (kind of like a pasty with spicy beef or chicken inside) the jerk chicken was fantastic as was the griddled snapper (they seem to eat alot of snapper)

what type of food do you like when you go away? anyone been the carribbean and enjoy their fresh fish? what about greek/spanish food, what dishes do you like?

MMmmmm I love Greek food. Lamb Kleftiko (slow cooked lamb rice and potatoes) is a favourite, as well as Stifado - a beef stew type thing, Saganaki which is fried cheese, and I adore Greek salads.

Fresh fish from the market. Straight on the BBQ with a bottle of local wine and some local tomatoes. Goats cheese straight from the farmer.

I love Greek / Turkish food (which is very similar, just has different names!!)

I love having a Meze in a traditional taverna with some retsina *RG22 floats away into a haze of happy holiday memories*

On a recent trip to South Africa, i decided to fly with Emirates via Dubai for a change and night-stop there. I went Business Class and the Middle Eastern Mezze they served up as starter on board got me totally hooked!! Wonderful stuff!!

Me too. Also love Grilled Halloumi cheese and a classic Pork Gyros for lunch.

Gyros is to die for, I lived on them on a holiday in Rhodes a few years back.

I ADORE Mcgriddles from mcdonalds when in New York. Sound bizzare but its a kind of burger, omlette and cheese, and the bun has syrup in it. Sounds ewwww but syrup and bacon are gorgeous together

You could have something similar from nearly every breakfast joint in New York, don't know why you'd get one from McDonalds.

I LOVE trying new food when on holiday.
Recently discovered Pepperpot stew in Antigua - delish.
I tried grits while in Georgia recently - proper southern american cuisine - tasted like a colder lumpier porridge

Nothing beats a proper short stack of hotcakes with good ol' crispy brittle bacon, maple syrup from a sticky metal jug and a imperial buttload of scrambled eggs

Oh yeah, or homefries, they'd work too. And did they served creamed chipped beef as a side? It's a heart attack on a plate..

Actually I have some blueberry pancake mix at home, and probably a litre of Aunt Jemima's syrup...hmmm...

I'm not a huge fan of American Bacon, but I love a good stack of pancakes with whipped butter and maple syrup and some proper Hash Browns.

really soft beef and pork, with west indian veg like sweet potato, callalloo, okra, pumpkin, chillis and peppers - each island and village has their own interpretation apparently.
Lovely.

Well I'm going to Tennessee next year, I have been to the states quite a few times to visit my Aunt in Texas, she cooked some wonder southern food, but I'm looking forward to the Tennessee visit. I'll probably comeback bigger than than the *King* Elvis!
