I had a yoghurt drink the other day that was made of berries, yoghurt and muesli, it was VERY nice. I have now puchased a smoothie/juice machine but I can't find a recipe for a smoothie with muesli in it.

Has anyone got a recipe??

Is it still a smoothie with lumps of muesli in it

Any other killer smoothie recipes for my fancy new smoothie maker?

Frozen Summer Berries & Apple Juice.

I have this everyday & taste gorgeous. The reason I use frozen berries is that not only does the smoothie comeout like a slush puppy but the cost of fresh berries is disgusting.

A 150g tub of fresh berries is £2 - £3

A 500g bag of frozen berries is £1.50

There is no such thing as a smoothie maker. They are called blenders.

Traditionally smoothies are always slushy anyway as ice is always added. Authentic American smoothies always have ice.

A smoothie maker is a blender with a little tap on it so you can pour the smoothie directly into the glass. i.e a blender that thinks it's a class above all the other blenders, the Hyacinth Bucket of the blending community.

It's a gimmick to sell an expensive product based on the popularity of smoothies. Smoothies in America have always been made in blenders and are simply poured out when done.
Anything to make a buck, I guess.

I have got a Kenwood "Smoothie To Go" from Robert Dyas and it was only about £20. It doesn't have a tap. Instead it comes with two clear plastic "mugs" the size of a large travel mug. You put all your ice/fruit/yoghurt/milk/oj whatever into this mug, then you screw the blender bit on to the top, then you turn it upside down and put it on the motor base for 10-20 seconds and it blends/chops everything up. Then you turn it the right way up again, unscrew the blade bit, put a "travel mug" sip through style lid on instead, and go off to work or to your desk with it and drink directly from the thing that you just blended all the ingredients up in.

I used to have one with a tap on it and it was a pain to wash out properly. This new "to go" design is ingenious.

The tip above about buying ready-frozen berries/fruit is brilliant. I went and checked a few supermarkets out. Tossco even sell loads of different frozen fruit specifically intended for smoothies etc, and it's miles cheaper than the fresh stuff, and saves having to make ice cubes all the time!

I have not been bold enough to try putting muesli in my smoothies yet.

Uh, because Americans invented what are known as smoothies. You can skip the ice but in the traditional and authentic sense of the word it wouldn't be a smoothie.

The remark about the blender was just poking fun at what companies will do to sell a product.

I'm always whizzing up fruit for my grandson and he loves deciding what to put in the blender,

his fave,
mango
banana
strawberries
raspberries
orange
apple

I always use frozen raspberries as they are superior to fresh ones and make the drink nice and cool

When bananas get just a bit past prime, I peel and freeze them. Chunks of frozen banana act as ice cubes and also thicken the smoothie a bit. Haven't tried muesli, but I often add wheat germ.

Hmmmm...... It's 100F on my back porch right now - a smoothie sounds really good.

You said 'who says the yanks are right?' and that is what I was responding to. I never said that things can not 'evolve.' I remarked that you can deviate from one of the primary original ingredients but that it would no longer be a smoothie in the original and authentic sense of the word. That's all.
