I currently have a wharfedale 26 inch lcd and have done for several years. I would now like to upgrade to something bigger, better and future proof. I like the look of a samsung but open to advice.

You could do worse than the latest 32" at Aldi for £349.99.
Its highly spec'd
Twin Scart/Twin HDMI/CI Slot- it uses the latest M Star 106 software solution too, which means that it tunes in ATV & Freeview channels together, - also, the EPG is updated with a clear easy to read layout and page up and page down via coloured buttons-

At £349.99 it seems good value for money too-
Cheers

Theres an average Samsung at Currys (so probably cheaper elsewhere) but pretty highly speced (more so than the one from Aldi) and it isn't a rebagged Vestel like the Aldi one so should be a lot better in quality and reliability.

The Aldi one is definitely not Vestel..... I bought 1 today... It has a quality feel about it- like a branded set... interestingly enough, it does not have Tevion badge on front!
Store manager said it was deliberate policy not to badge large screen sets...... Its like saying customers wont want to show off a Tevion branded 32" to their mates who come to visit!
They should've been proud of this one.... It is their best yet-it feels "branded" if you know what I mean.
Anyway, dont mean to get into a contest with anybody.... All I am saying that this Aldi 32" is surprisingly good and will surprise people who might otherwise dismiss supermarket brands out of hand.

Must be a different model to the one I was thinking about.

Do you know what the other specs are then (e.g. contrast ratio, etc...)?

Currently have the Tevion sitting in my lounge, husband came home with it yesterday. Very impressed with it, decent picture, sound isnt half bad either.

And yes, very nice not to have a big Tevion badge on the front of it
