17-07-2008
just got my iphone 3g yesterday, from apple store manchester trafford centre... was no que and had many in stock!

anyway, ive set up my pop3 blueyonder account on my iphone, and its has received emails fine, but when i try to send one i get the following message "recipient email address not valid"... i tried to send to a few different 'vaild' email address but the samemessage was displayed, im certain i have the correct settings in my iphone for the email... (i have a mac and use mail, so my email accounts were automatically transfered to my iphone, i have tried deleting this and manually adding the account with the correct info to no avail)

any help?

Dont you need to be on a blue yonder connection to send emails out? I know when i was with pipex if i tried to send my mail out when i was not on at home and elsewhere it wouldn't let me send any messages.

I've never heard of that before, but maybe your right. Actually no, I sent an email via my blueyonder email account on my nokia last week, I will check the settings on that and compare to my iPhone settings. Cheers

o need to check the settings, they must be correct as when I get home and my iPhone connects to my wifi network the emails are sent automatically, if the settings were wrong this wouldn't work?

Anyone else having email trouble?

incoming mail server = pop3.blueyonder.co.uk
Outgoing= SMTP.blueyonder.co.uk

Username is your blueyonder username, password is ur selected pass.

Other than them I'm not sure really, a simple google search for blueyonder email settings will get some useful info

Perhaps you have used the BY SMTP settings rather than the O2 settings? Which would work on your home wireless but not on O2.

edit: Set outgoing to smtp.o2.co.uk

SMTP servers transfers outbound mail, but you need to select one you can get to. From the O2 network you can't access the BY server.

Fixed it, 4 some reason the username and password hadn't been entered in the outgoing mail server settings! Doh!

To set up email on a Blackberry you do this:

Enter email address.

Enter email address password.

Does the iPhone not work in the same way?

the way it usually works is that it takes your email details from your email app on your mac or pc automatically.

So unless you're running something like Outlook or Lotus Notes you have to enter the settings manually?

That's disappointing. I thought that, like the Blackberry, you'd have auto email set up on the handset.
