I am about to change networks and cannot decide which one to go with.
Based on your own personal experiences and/or opinions, which do you think is best ?

O2, they have less banding on there phones and there contract phones are unlocked so when you upgrade easier for you to give away or sell. Also in my area O2 as the best signal.

Oh and O2 has better signal penetration for buildings.....

o2 by far!

With T-Mobile, to even get ONE bar signal in my house I have to be upstairs, then standing on a chair and do a little dance - seriously T-Mobile signal is way low. Also when I was on a train a friend of mine was on T-Mobile had "Emergency SOS Only" on screen - although I am on 3, I had full signal all the way.

o2 signal is full in most places I have been!

T-Mobile. Tariffs are much better. Coverage is not a problem, and O2's G coverage is woeful.

Bear in mind that people who say they prefer a network due to 'better signal' are offering a worthless opinion unless you frequest the exact locations as they do.

It's worth looking at what you will use the phone for. If you call a lot of other neworks then tmobile is better with their 'everyone' tariff, calls are just 15p whereas on o2 it's 20p with a connection charge.

But if you text a lot then o2's offer of 1000 texts for £30 a month would be better.

If loads of your mates are on tmobile then you can get offers where calling and texting them is cheaper or even unlimited for a few days.

All depends on what you want with your phone.

I agree with ^^^^

I have 02 at home in West Yorkshire reception is bang on , full reception etc

I go away each weekend and the reception there is pants , the only decent signals available /attainable in that location is Vodafone or Three

So as said bear in mind where you are likely to use it

If you have an unlocked phone or can get your hands on one, send for the free sims diferent networks offer. You don't have to top any of them up - use them to check signal strengths in the areas you need to. I've done it.

The point about the signal is only valid if the OP lives in your house too?

You don't say if it's pay and go or contract you're after but T-Mobile do a "solo" sim, a 30 day rolling contract, sim only, you get 500 mins and unlimited texts for £20 a month.

Or just go to each of the Operator's websites and check coverage there. They will also show you 3G coverage if that's important to you.

well O2 is the best as compared to that of E-Mobile. I prefer O2 rather then E-Mobile , even I advise others.

This is true... O2's frequency band is lower than T's, and therefore better at getting through walls.

Doesn't always work. An assistant in Three checked my rellie's postcode for coverage and said her area wasn't covered. Her kid was given an out of contract Three phone and it works.

Im my area the networks with the best signal are.
1 02
2 Orange/Vodafone
T-Moble/ Virgin only seem to get 2 bars out of the 5 in parts of my area.
Im not sure about 3 or Tesco Mobile as I dont know anyone that use them in my area.
You will fine one or two places you go into the 02 signal can go weak. I was in a pub other week and my 02 signal went down from 5 bars to 2/3 bar but most places you go into the 02 signal is usally 4 bars. Then 5 bars once you get outside.

Is there any independent evidence for this or is it just an armchair expert opinion?

No I believe that is right. I remember reading that one band is stronger than the other.

It was either T-Mobiles / Oranges band

or o2/vodafones.

I'm going to need to see a link before I go along with that.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I have a very good 3G signal on o2 around here so that's probably not going to help me. But it's good to know.

Having used both networks, T-Mobile is the better one

Aren't you the guy that was shown a link to the Ofcom site that proved to you that the area code for London was 020 yet you still refused to believe it?
