A typical 24 hours in the life of our club. Luckily, it appears that little damage has been done.

Could this be the day when our 3 Year League one hell comes to an End, its going to be a tough ask, because Charlton away is going to be Tough they dont lose many and they dont conceade many either , but we also have to rely on Tranmere fighting for their lives beating Millwall as well

Just a brief note to say it was 35 years ago today we were robbed of the European Cup. It still annoys me that for all our reputation for gamemanship and cynicism we were shown to be mere novices when compared to Bayern Munich.

Indeed!

Anyway, our first signing of the summer and it's a quality one - Kasper Schmeichel joins us on a free and takes over the no 1 shirt.

Great young keeper, am actually quite surprised we managed to get him as apparently a few premier league teams were after him.

His dad will have to become a Leeds fan now!

I wonder if Kasper will inherit his father's red nose?

I'd love Grayson to try & pull out all the stops & try to sign Kris Boyd. He's been banging in the goals for years up here but & would be an idea replacement for Beckford but we would face tough competition for his signature from a few Premier League teams

He is going to join HIS Old boss Mcglish at Brum i think
doubt he would want to drop down to the championship either tbh

I would like him as well - bangs the goals in rightly and would be good in the championship!

We have an excellent selling point to offer top clubs like Arsenal. Loan players get a season to toughen up in the Championship, have access to top flight training facilities and the prospect of playing in front of large, hostile crowds. We can attract young players, like Watt, and they and their host clubs will benefit.

I suspect we will see more loan players next season but of high quality.

Billy Paynter on board now, good enough to fill a Beckford sized hole? I think so

http://www.leedsunited.com/news/2010...247585_2063633

hoping we can nick a few players from other Championship sides though who will be competing with us next season & 1 or 2 quality loanees from the premiership

This will be Our biggest signing in Years if it comes off, with both Middlesbrough, and Celtic also involved, Celtic can offer the Champions League, and boro have the Premiership payments as well , but the Championship is a tougher League than the Spl so hopefully we will have that in our favour

This is what it said

Hooper prefurs Leeds over boro, But and this is the stumbling block Boro are offering more Money we are only offering 1 Million plus Kandol, and Lubo as well, boro is a straight cash Deal of 2.5 Million

It's a million plus Kandol or 750K without him!

Can't argue with Paynter as a decent signing as he was available on a free and had a great scoring record last season. He's not really a Beckford replacement though, he's more similar to Becchio really - very physical and hard working player who will get stuck in and cause problems, but lacks the pace of Beckford.

Hooper would be a real quality signing if we can get him as well.

I am Looking forward to our new season in the Championship and would be happyif we consolidate ourselves for a couple years in this division, rather than go straight up to premiership and get stuffed every other game before getting relegated again.
This season will give Leeds fans a clearer picture on issues like how much money Bates is willing to spend on new players as we will not survive for too long in this division relying on freebies & loan players. (although judging by our new signings to date he is giving it a go).

This will also be a big season for Grayson, no one can deny his passion for the club he has always supported and i am confident he can make "Leeds Utd" great again.
He was doing well with Blackpool in Championship untill Bates came knocking.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how things play out in the Championship as well, I agree this could be a big season both in terms of a test of Bates' ambition and to see how Grayson copes.

I've got my tickets sorted for the pre-season friendly against Wolves tomorrow and then the first 2 league games of the season (home to Derby, away at Forest) - both of those games are likely to be real tests of our ability to cope in the Championship!

So what are we making of our season so far?

I pretty happy with how we're performing but the defeats recently where we've shipped 5 & 6 are worrying. The defence needs sorting out in January as the games I've seen, I've not been confident with any of them when the ball's in our 18 yard box. The sooner Schmeichal's back, the better.

Up the other end, there's no problem in creating & scoring opportunities with goal scorers from all areas.

The best summer signings we've made, IMO, are Davide Somma, Kasper Schmeichal & Lloyd Sam.

I'll be happy just staying in the league this season, consolidate our position & push for playoff or automatic promotion next season

Ahah! The Leeds United thread has been revived, excellent!I was starting to think there were no Leeds fans left here!

I'll post some views on the season so far a bit later. Plenty of "ups and downs" so far though.

Just a quick comment though - Somma wasn't a summer signing, we had him last season but he went to Lincoln on loan.

And I'd also be more than happy with just staying up this season.

Ok, here's some more detailed comments how I see things so far!

We should be fine for mid table this season but we're just too inconsistent to realistically aim for playoffs just yet. Which is fine with me, we've only just come up after all.

Overall I thought we did well with the summer signings, 12 new players coming in and hardly any money spent, but I think the midfield is our weakest area.

The problem in midfield is that we sent Michael Doyle back to Coventry when his loan finished, and he played a crucial holding/defensive role for us in midfield last season - and was pretty much ever present, with over 40 appearances. But we've lost him and rather than replacing him, have ended up signing no end of lightweight attacking midfielders/wingers instead.

As a result the midfield too often goes missing defensively in games, which is what has led to the big defeats so far - when teams (e.g. Watford) play long ball against us we're fine and can deal with it defensively, but when teams pass/run at us through midfield (e.g. Barnsley), or have a striker intelligent enough to drop off and find the space between our defence and midfield (e.g. Derby, Preston) they just tear us apart.

So despite all the summer signings, what we still lack is a defensive central midfielder who basically needs to play every game. We have signed Amdy Faye who is supposed to be able to do this role, but he hasn't featured yet, is 33 and has questionable fitness so I'm not convinced he is the answer.

Overall, though, we have enough attacking options and quality going forward to score goals, and should do well enough this season to stay up. I just can't see us pushing on for playoffs etc until we get some steel in central midfield.

Best signings of the summer for me - Kasper has been fantastic, I have no doubt that we wouldn't have conceded 5 or 6 if he had been playing, hopefully he'll be back fit again very soon (he was still wearing a protective cast on his foot on Saturday.)

Sam and Watt have also been good if a bit inconsisent - but fall in to the category of lightweight attacking wide players who offer nothing defensively. Same with Gradel.

Bessone has been awful but it's hard to be too harsh on the other defenders when they get no protection from the midfield.

Somma has also been a revelation up front and should start every game. I'm not sure who the best partner for him is, but with Becchio, McCormack and Paynter we have options in attack.

I'm enjoying the season so far anyway, and looking forward to seeing how we bounce back from Tuesday's performance against Ipswich on Saturday!
