Not beaten Cardiff since 1984 , and apart from about 10/15 minutes in 2nd half never looked like doing it tonight, poor first half improved in 2nd, looked to have a good point , then(yet another defensive **** up) cost us,

Still at least we can now go to the Emraties and Relax ,

I'm a Manchester united fan, but would love Leeds to go up this season.......... In the next 3 seasons Leeds will be in europe again
That's the spirit! I have a couple of mates who are season ticket holders at Old Trafford and they say the same, yes they despise Leeds but would still much rather we were back in the Prem. They'd like to be playing us on a regular basis rather than some of the other teams currently in the Premier League.

Defensively we continue to be very suspect, although it was good to see Ben Parker back last night but he's well short of match sharpness. I'd like to see Bromby given another chance alongside O'Brien, and I still think we also need a defensive CM.

I can understand resting Becchio but it doesnt look like Paynter is up to it, which is worrying. At least now we've got the Xmas period out of the way it will be less hectic in terms of games, but we really are relying on certain key players like Becchio and Howson in the way we play this season, we don't seem to have any effective cover for them.

But yeah, looking forward to a nice day out at the Emirates on saturday, the pressure will be off.

Soo figured I might as well bump the old Leeds thread again.

Some random thoughts after Saturday:

- Bruce and O'Brien looked very solid. For once Bruce didn't make any mistakes that cost us goals, but then again he's mostly done that when teams play long balls which Arsenal didn't do. I'd much rather see him in there ahead of Collins.

- It was inevitable that Walcott would come on and cause us problems, especially after Parker picked up a booking. I was surprised he didnt come on earlier. Good to see Parker get another full game, can't really blame him for the penalty, he's still our best option at left back ahead of Bessone or Hughes.

- Snoddy looked good playing in the central attacking midfield role with Watt out wide. Seems to work better than McCormack in that position.

- I still reckon Arsenal will do us in the replay, all they need to do is put Walcott on and use a bit of pace and we're stuffed.

- All I was hoping for the Arsenal game was that we'd show a bit of passion and pride, and that we wouldn't be humiliated. The players delivered on that front, the fact that our fans were singing "Were Leeds and we're proud of it" at the final whistle summed it up for me. The result didn't really matter, but the performance was all we could have asked for.

- The atmosphere at the Emirates was good in our end, facilities in the ground were great but the overall atmosphere seemed a bit...I dunno, soulless. Certainly compared to other away grounds I've been to this season like Forest, Coventry, Burnley, Barnsley etc. It was a bit strange not to have the home fans really giving us any abuse.

- Scunthorpe at home on saturday is way more important than any result in the cup. We've not won in the League for 5 games and desperately need 3 points.

Bit surprised by this but most Leeds fans from Yorks, would be Quite happy to go out next Wednesday, & concentrate on promotion which we are more than capable of acheiving this year albit not Auto think that is asking too much imo

Well us Leeds fans in Herts dont share that view being surrounded BY Gooners the reason being , that if we beat Arsenal, we will then only lose to Huddersfield , personally i would take former rather than latter

Personally I don't see the FA Cup as at all important, it's just a distraction, because I don't think we have any chance of winning it. So on that basis I'm not really bothered when we go out or who we go out to, all I'm bothered about is that we put in a good performance win or lose.

Even if I was surrounded by Arsenal fans I'd have no problem with them beating us provided we showed a bit of passion and pride with our performance (as we did on Saturday) as a Championship side losing to a Champions League side is no disgrace.

But losing to Huddersfield would be a bit more embarrassing.

In other news, it's about time we brought in another central midfielder as apparently we've released Amdy Faye, and with Kilkenny on international duty it leaves us deperately short of any back up in central midfield.

I'd only just noticed this post and was going to repost details on some other Leeds United websites I know but having checked the details I see there has been an outcome.

Shit. Absolutely tragic, nothing much else that can be said.

Well we're still hanging in there. The plan has to be go up this year or next, and then try and stay up. I hope it's this year, but I wouldn't want us to come straight back down and I think we would need to improve a lot to survive in the top flight.

Was at Game yesterday we looked nervous at back, and untill Becchio came on didnt look like scoring either , after a dire first half it (game) came to life in the last 15 mins, we didnt deserve to win, imo but we got lucky by a crazy own Goal in 90th minute , Banhan took corner, nobody anywhere near Troy Deelany and he put it past his own Keeper , Ross McCormack just shugged his shoulders as if to say thanks mate

Looks like we're not going up, unless we beat QPR by seven goals on Saturday and Forest lose.
To be honest i said right at the start of the season I will settle for 7th spot so we don't have the agony of the play-offs. I do believe that we need 2 seaons in this league to equip ourselves for the Premier League

Glad I'm not the only one.
I'm really happy with finishing seventh as the last thing we need is to lose in the play-offs or to fluke it into the Premiership and have an awful season and come straight back down
Hopefully we should be in really good shape for next season. We're rubbish in the play-offs so we've got to aim for an automatic promotion place

Sorry to bump this but I suppose it's the best place...

Apparently Simon Grayson has been at the last two Stevenage home games and is after our young player Lawrie Wilson. Any thoughts from Leeds fans?

Wilson's a great young player and has adapted to League One brilliantly. Of course I'd be gutted to see him go but I think he deserves to turn out for a big club, and it's also something of a validation for Stevenage as a whole, that we do have good players and not just bully boys!

Ah you found the Leeds thread, nice one I was looking for this myself the other day!

Basically the Leeds squad at the moment is short of midfielders (particularly left sided, but also central midfield) and experienced fullbacks, everything else we've got loads of.

Don't know much about this Lawrie Wilson, where does he play? A quick look on wiki seems to suggest he's a fairly versatile midfielder, which might indicate he would be the sort of player we'd be after.

But - we did actually sign another midfielder a few days ago (Mika Vayryen, Finnish international, had been released by his previous club so could sign him as a free agent) so it may be that Grayson decided to go for him instead.

It sounds like it might actualy involve having to pay you some money if we wanted this Wilson lad anyway, which would probably rule us out of any deal.

Wilson is pretty versatile as you say, and can play all over the place, although he's most comfortable at right back or right midfield, he also plays centrally fairly often.

Perhaps you're not after him now then if you've signed someone else, but the local newspaper says that Grayson was definitely at Broadhall Way for our match with Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, so you never know. I suppose he has until January to consider it anyway.

On a fee, I'm not sure how long his contract is to be honest, I know that the club seem to prefer short one/two year contracts that are renegotiated fairly regularly, I think so they can easily ship off any underperformers and get them off the payroll as we have a tight budget, so it could be that he's out of contract next summer, so you might not have to pay too much at all!

Yeah definitely sounds like the sort of player we'd be after based on his position. I also think that we will be changing our transfer policy slightly come January after we seemed to spend the whole summer going after all sorts of fringe Premier League/Championship players and failing to land any of them cos we're not willing to pay enough in wages, I expect us to start looking at League 1 players who might not expect to be paid as much! So this would make sense all round really.

The most we've paid for any player in the last 2 years or so is about £500k, if Wilson might be available for that sort of price could well be having another look in January.

Soooo good (if lucky) home win today against Bristol City, we needed that even though the performance wasn't great and we managed to get yet another red card. Ross McCormack, Adam Clayton and Andy Lonergan continue to do the business though, and Becchio got a good run out again too.

The attendance was interesting today, at around 22,500 I make that our lowest home Saturday attendance since we got back in to the Championship. Seems more and more people are staying away from Elland Road, which can only put more pressure on Bates.

M.O.T peeps.

Interview from SG after the Leeds 2 Bristol City match.

I never knew this thread existed

A great goal form Clayton and I have to admit it. A great goal form Kilkenny.

Welcome to the thread, yeah this hasnt been the most active of club threads in the past but we can always try to change that.

Cheers for the link to the interview, interesting that again Grayson talks about us dominating games early on but not being able to score the goals, I'm not sure if it comes down to us not having enough reliable goalscorers - McCormack is doing well but Keogh seems incapable of scoring, and it was the same story when he was at Wolves I think. I'll be glad to see Becchio back cos we need his goals.

Defensively we're terrible as ever, never look like keeping a clean sheet, Paddy seems to be really struggling and I've no idea what's going on at right back, seems we buy defenders and then destroy their confidence.

Anyway, still some positives, Clayton and McCormack have been excellent so far this season. If we could sort the defence out we might be ok.

And yeah, you just knew Kilkenny was going to do something like that today. How come he never did that when he played for us eh?!

Bring on Manu. I just hope they have used their quota of goals for the month.

Becchio hattrick and maybe a goal from Mika Vayrynen

We have an important game on Friday @ Brighton and I would gladly take the 3 points from that game and go out of the Carling Cup.
They play on on Sunday so hopefully they will be weary. I can't see AF fielding a weakened side as they will want revenge.

I think they will only make one change to their team on Tuesday night. The referee

Yeah would be good to see Becchio starting against Man U and maybe Mika Vayrynen getting some game time, can see him coming in for Nunez on the left.

Not expecting much cos I also think they'll put out a pretty strong team, and with our current defence you just know we'll concede goals, but I agree that the Brighton game is much more important - I'm going to Brighton but not bothering with the Carling Cup.

Easy peasy for us then.

We may have Paynter up front.
