What's the blu-ray player and what TV is it? It should work fine, connect using HDMI (if possible) and it should detect what your TV is capable of. You should be able to set the output to 1080i anyway. Would help though if you told us exactly what blu-ray player and TV it is and how you plan on connecting it up? And am I understanding this right, you're renting the blu-ray player

As suggested, it will work fine, just don't force the BluRay to 1080P, as your set may well not display anything then - the BluRay should have plenty of output options, and 1080i is guaranteed to work on any HD Ready TV.

So what do i choose? do i choose that : 1080i?
Some 1080i tv's will accept a 1080p input. But the HDMI connection from the player should automatically detect the correct resolution anyway. Note that unfortunately while standard def material will be upscaled by the player on dvd's - any standard def material on Bluray discs (extras for instance) wont be...although I'm on the PS3 - I'm assuming standalones are the same So quality will drop |

Blue ray players go "upto 1080p", but you dont have to use it. You can use them on the slightly lesser setting of 1080i, or even the lower 720p.
I guess its much like the upscaler on my Freeview DVD-HDD combi. You can upscale to 720p, or 1080i. If the tv were an old (early) HD it may only go as high as 720p, in which case I would just select the lower 720p setting as the output. Dave |

You might be better selecting 720p anyway as it's not a full 1080 res display. Try 720p and 1080i and see which looks best to you
