Simply. Thats the name of Voda's new tariff.

From 1st Sept all customers on Anynet or Anytime will automatically transfered to Simply.

All calls cost 20p per min, anytime, any network, text 10p.

The bad news for new customers Stop the Clock won't be available.

The good news for existing customers Stop the Clock gets transfered to the new tariff!

So if your thinking of moving to Vodafone PAYG, do it before 1st Sept or miss out on Stop the clock.

Oh wow, 20p per minute cross network? Such good value except compared to tmobile and Three.

Yeah, yeah, but apart from all that, it's good value.

I think that eventually, all the networks will try and tempt people onto these 30 day rolling contracts, which, i have to say, are very good value.
Pay and Go is more and more being geared so that unless you are a VERY light user (like my Dad who has had £12 odd on his phone for well over a year!), you'd be better of on a 30 day-er

That's just nonsense. What networks want is for people to buy bolt-ons. Networks like PAYG customers because they pay up front.

As an example, I top-up £15 a month on O2. This gives me 1,000 free minutes from my favourite postcode to landlines and O2 Mobiles. I then spend £5 of that £15 on a Your Numbers bolt-on which gives me 1,000 minutes/texts to my choice of 10 numbers. I've still got £10 left to cover my x-net calls. Plus I get 10% back every three months. Plus an O2 Treat (I chose free voicemail).

And if you want more details, go here: http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4346

My main concern (much like people over at that forum) is how and if free weekends will be impacted? That and internet access were the reasons i moved from O2 to Vodafone because as many people here know, you dont get full internet access on O2 PAYG (i dont know if that has changed yet) but you do on the other networks including Vodafone.

Yeah, yeah, but apart from all that, it's good value.
So an hour long evening call that currently costs 30p under the new tariff will cost 60p for existing customers with STC and £12 for new customers

Great value that

Well it sounds like free weekends are staying and will be available to new and current customers on the new tariff, so i intend on staying as a customer, unless things change which i dont like.

Just wondering, as a result of this what will vodafone PAYG customers here be doing? Staying on it or taking their custom elsewhere?

Staying, but thats only because vodafone are giving us the option to change back to the Anynet tariff for 30 days after the 1st September. If it wasn't for the fact they were doing that i would be off like a shot to be honest and i have been with Vodafone PAYT since 1997 now.

It always seems to be the case if you see a phone company using the words 'Simple' or 'Simply' with respect to tariff changes, you can normally assume the word 'Simple' or 'Simply' really means 'it's going to cost you more'. In this case a lot more if your mainly an off peak user, or a hell of a lot more after the 1st Spetember if your a new customer and stop the clock isn't available to you.

I can see Voda PAYT not gaining many new customers after 1st September 2008.

Tesco mobile gives you 20p calls and 10p texts plus 5 numbers half price. On the O2 network.

Virgin gives you 15ppm flat rate calls and 10p texts with bonus minutes and texts.

Three offer 12p calls (and admitedly 12p texts)

Orange offer 15p calls and 10p texts

which makes this just about the worst PAYG deal out there, unless you are an existing customer and get stop the clock.

Their is no excuse for not having STC after 1st Sept, its 6 week away, so get those SIM's ordered and enjoy the best call rates around!

60p for 1 hour to any network/off peak. Thats 1p per minute, which network beats that!

20p per min thru the day, which is 10p per min cheaper than Anynet!!!

So i'm sorry, i really don't see anything to complain about.

Apart from anything else, I can see them phasing out 'stop the clock' over time.

It's a rubbish tariff for new users.

What you ought to have written is "In my opinion" before the "that's just nonsense" bit?

All these bolt-on minutes and texts you describe are only valid to other O2 customers. In another section you go on about 'postcodes' - yeah you can make your calls there, but it's bit restricted if you have to be at home, or near to it, and the £10 that covers your x-net calls is enough for about 80 seconds chat per day based on the call charge being 25p/min, not to mention any x-net texting you might be doing. Free voicemail might be good, but it usually means calling the person back because if someone leaves a message, they usually expect it.
So yes, O2 and your workings-out might suit you but who these days has mates who are all on one network? It's just more of a convenience to be able to text anyone, anytime, regardless of the network they are on, and be charged no extra for doing so.
All i was trying to do was to point out was that the mobile phone networks would much rather have people on contracts - even 30 day ones - than on PAYT

20 pence cross network still gives them a gazillion per cent mark-up. Still, it had to happen. And what do you know - o2 are reducing their cross network charge too. Funny that!

Contract customers pay up front too - for the inclusive bits. Billed services (calls over and above allowances) are paid for retrospectively, but that's what credit checking is there for.
The networks have to supply, or subscribe to, terminal services to allow top-ups, and that costs.
And if PAYT customers are preferred by the networks, why aren't they promoting it by giving such customers a much better deal (regarding minutes and texts) than they offer on, say, a just SIM 30-day'er?
