Which decade would everyone call the BEST decade of music?

I would say the 80's - it may have missed the important genre of rock, but with artists such as Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan and Madonna: Was it really important?

I think this has been the best decade so far - music produced in the last few years has been great as far as I'm concerned.

Lala - start ones you want to see if you want to see them, otherwise we will have no new theads at all - unfair to criticize others for starting a thread though.

(Said in the nicest possible way - love GG xxx)

The 80's???? Are you people insane.

Did the 80's spawn.....

The Rolling Stones
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Cream
The Doors
Aretha Franklin
Jimi Hendrix
Pink Floyd
Otis Redding
James Brown
The Kinks
Bob Dylan
The Small Faces
The Bee Gees
The Who
etc
etc

I think not. But then again I suppose the 80's did give us Spandau Ballet, Madonna and Jive Bunny!

Even The Police started in the 70's.

And as for GG...."I think this has been the best decade so far - music produced in the last few years has been great as far as I'm concerned." I trust you were being ironic? Either that or you're a musical philistine.

The 60s and 70s were the best eras of music.

Through those years the art of how to create a song was perfected, and the heights of expression were at their peak. The 80s were probably the most popular in terms of amounts of records sold, but songs were probably more determined by "musical fashions" so to speak. This extended into the very early 90s, however since then to now music has for the most part been very poor.

I wasn't saying that at all. I was just slagging off the 80s.

The 90's were worse than the 80's and this decade is the absolute worst of all. Manufactured w@nk!.

Give or take a few great bands in each decade the sixties were the best, then the 70's, 80's, 90's and now 00's (or however you write it

Yuck what the fcuk you are talking about craking dance music!

Music during the 1990 and 1992 was dominated by faceless one hit wonders dance music.........it was terrible.......then came brit pop........But then Brit pop played into labour and politics.....then it died out.......Then pop music came back in to fill the whole as usual!

This decade........Begun with the explosion of Garage.....then r'n'b/hip hop really started to kick in..........then it faded a bit.......Now pop comes in again to fill the whole.......Now America is taking over!

Its all a big fcuking cynical cycle that we all get stuck into to and thing nothings going to change

We are a bunch of monkeys really:yawn:

Music is a very cynical thing...it goes around and around.....and we poor stupid things get caught up in the row...then what do you know..music seems great again!

We are all a bunch of sheeps and monkeys......that includes me and you TOML

Totally agree, some of the early 90s dance was brilliant and alot of artists today sample it.

Those who say......music is shit this decade etc etc etc!

They should really take their head out of their own arses to be quite honest.........I was one that does complain about the state of music nowadays.......But then i looked at the bigger picture and search of unsigned bands on the web etc etc and found out music aint bad at all.

The only thing thats wrong with music is the BRITISH music scene.......But some poor people who are around 18 get the British music scene confused with music in general!

Music in general is great as always.......music never dies and those who believe it does........go and top yourselfs you bunch of loosy rats! I mean why do you think theres more American acts in the chart thesedays??? huh?.....Because British music on the whole aint at its best.......But that will soon change!

And most of those who complain are rock or indie fans....who find it quite hard to believe that no rock music enters the top ten ........all i can say to them is ......sad......get out more please and burn that fat!

Rock is still alive believe it or not and as for indie.....well its having a bit of a revival at the moment if you didnt know.......

I hate reality-tv pop now.....havent been watch either FA or Pop idol......but i know for sure that there is going to be a backclash and infact it looks like its coming slowly......So i know theres light somewhere.

Anyways......music aint dead its alive..you just have to look for it .....yes that does mean you need to get off your backside yes!
