Buying iPod help
Voodoo Child
20-07-2008
I want to buy a black classic 80GB iPod on Friday, but to make sure I can get it repaired etc and exchanged if it breaks do I need to buy the gurantee stuff? Like the Apple 3 year cover plan or anything?

I got my ipod from pc world and i got cover for it, its about £2 a month, but im not entirely sure what it covers. I got mine replaced due to it crashing, which turned out to be a firmware bug at the time, but i got a new ipod with double capacity.

Might be worth looking at

PCW/Currys monthly plans will cover breakdown and accidental damage but not battery issues (officially) or theft or loss. An insurance policy may cover more or less. I don't know what AppleCare covers, sure it'll be on their website.

Of course iPods come with a 1 year guarantee and are covered by the Sale Of Goods Act, as with everything. I've found my iPods very reliable and would only get cover against theft or loss if you don't trust yourself not to lose it!

Just bought an 160gb Classic from Marks and Spencer yesterday and they have a free 2 year guarantee................they are also giving away a free speaker dock with every ipod bought.

Did you buy it in store?

Do they do 80GB?

You sure about the theft/loss? I have a coverplan for a portable dvd player and that covers both, accidental damage, pretty much anything that prevents you from using it as it is meant to be used. I'd go with one of those because with stores that offer warranties of this type, I've never known them to give me a refurb. With the Apple care, you're more likely to get a refurb if something goes wrong.

This is from Marks and Spencer online store, but it is exactly the same instore and Bluewater definitely had the 80gb and the guarantee is free for 2 years

Authorised Apple retailer, it's almost like buying it from Apple!
