I missed the engineer who had come to fix the hot water by about 10 mins. so I phoned the number on the card he left ( 0208 ) hoping he would still be in the area and his company could contact him and let him know I was home.
So I rang from the house phone and it rang 6 or 7 times and then to a recorded message .. the usual thing, '' sorry for the delay , you are moving forward, please hold and we'll answer your call as soon as possible'' + the piped music . As I am with talktalk with free calls up to an hour and cost not being a problem, I spent 55 mins. listening to that rigmarole and hung up.
No hot water over the weekend
, so rang again at 9.30 Mon morning and this time spent 40 mins listening to the same thing.
My daughter then suggested I try her mobile as it has a speaker and I wouldn't have to be holding the house phone to my ear. I didn't see much point but tried it and Lo and behold it rang a couple of times then gave options like press 1 or 2 and I was talking to them very quickly. I told them when I had rang and they were as mystified as me as both times they were not busy and said I should have got the options like I did on the mobile.
So, I got through to the same number on both the landline and the mobile but the result was totally different. I've been scratching my head over this one but can't work it out .................. any ideas
After getting through to them the engineer turned up within 10 minutes and fixed the problem
