1997 for me, only ever bought 3 singles. i don't really understand why so many people buy them. they seem so expensive to me.

I only buy them if they're £1.99- I'm a cheapskate. I bought 2 last week. Jet because the album isn't out for a couple of weeks and I love the song, and The Rapture because I'm not sure the album would be my cup of tea. I could probably count on the fingers of one hand the number I've bought in the past year though.

I very very rarely buy singles. Last one I bought was Elvis - A little less conversation.

I used to buy about 10 a week (between 1980 & 1995) but charts are sooo bad lately and prices are way too high!

I've never bought a single. I just buy albums. Far cheaper in the long run.

I thin it was around 2000/2001. Nowadays I tend to download the singles, and if I like them buy the album.

ages ago, and they were from a second hand shop to bring them to a sensible price.

i like live renditions, demos & other b-sides, hence the purchases, but now most of the bands i like put them on their site.

yes, the internet does make buying singles seem a little bit silly!

plus the fact that singles seem a little bit inconvenient as after you've listened to the song you either have to listen to it on repeat or keeping taking the cd out and putting another one in. Its not like an album where you can just leave it for an hour

I bought 4 singles from HMV a couple of weeks ago (by Client, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Stars + The Ravonettes.) I''ve always bought singles though, right from the mid 80's so I guess it's something that's always been with me.

The best thing of all about singles is that you know you're getting a song you like when you buy it. There's nothing more frustrating when it comes to music buying than to hear a great single, go & buy an album on the strength of that single, only to get home and realise that that was the only good song on the whole album & the rest of it is a big pile of cr*p.

Albums have their place too of course, but I do find it a bit sad the way the single format has become the poor relation over the last decade or so, especially when singles in their first few weeks on release often only cost £1.99.

The problem about singles i find is that ost of the singles released are from commercial bands and artist etc..........Not alot of artist on a independent label are availuable on single!

But hey singles just waste my time anyways........i only listen to them for a couple of months and get bored of it .....just same song and some other rubbish on the b side.

Thats why i prefer albums.......variety and you get the whole package on what the artist or band is by getting an album!

Plus we have the internet now and its official.....more people download singles then buy them in a shop!.........It take 1-2 million downloads to make a single on the internet go number 1!......thats alot........Compared to cd singles which is around 8,000 i believe.

Will Young's Evergreen (in Feb 2002) other than that, very rarely in the years before.
Singles are a waste of money. I can get copies of albums for £2, and double CD albums for £2.50

my last single as a Birthday present on 29th April 2002 Marilyn Manson - "Tainted Love" But I have never actually bought a single before! And Kazaa Lite makes it seem pointless.
