Big Brothers discussion topic (life changing personal experience)
Basically Big Brother said that they had to discuss something personal in their lives which had
affected them a lot. Dean started off about a true life experience with his best friend basically about drugs and him going over to America and getting stoned. End result was that his friend spent 2 years in Jail over there and that the experience had made him look at life in a different perspective. Hes been married before at the age of 19, split up when he was 24 but didnt actually get a divorce until 9 years later!, and now is about to marry again at the age of 37. I think Helen was next and I cant really remember much about it!, basically I think it was about her current boyfriend when they were at school and the fact he was up for attempted murder and not totally sure but think he got 6months in prison. She also talked about her being dsylexic although she admitted that she didnt mind. I think Stuart came next and he talked about his parents divorcing when he was 6 years old. His Grandma basically looked after him and they were very close until she died. He talked about how they were on the same wavelength being in the same room some days you didnt have to talk because you knew how the other was feeling, the things he learnt off his grandma made him a stronger more confident person but the death of his grandma at the time was unbearable. He also talked about how watching childbirth made him realise the responsibility he had for bringing life onto this earth. His was mainly a positive experience although obviously his parents divorce/grandmas death was very upsetting at the time. Paul's revelation was that he was an average guy at school, often bullied because he had big ears and therefore no girls were interested in him. The signifcant thing here is that he became more confident by taking up karate and then ultimately one day at the age of 15 his ears were pinned back and he suddenly realised that girls started to become interested in him. The underlying story behind this he said was that he learnt how to perceive people even though people are never perfect. After the operating its him now who has the luck and the bullys havent dont very well for themselves (hes been to uni and done a degree etc). His motto then was what goes around, comes around . He also mentioned his brother had the sameoperation I think and is now one of the top models in the UK. He talked about how he stuck up for other people being bullied in all walks of life and the way he perceives people because of his past is a good thing and not a bad thing. |

Elisabeth talked about when he went to India where she was involved with
some drug problems. After getting stoned and needing a doctor which was very hard to find she eventually found one only to be 'touched up' by the doctor. The story was quite long winded but anyway another personal problem she had was at university where Elisabeth had severe back problems and it was only from her dads involvement that she was seen professionally by a back specialist who advised her to have micro surgery. In the end she took the exercise option which took about 2 years to make her back better. Brian's true life drama went on for ages, and it was probably one of the most touching of them all. He spoke about how he fell in love with this guy (a holiday rep) abroad whereby this guy left a note in a bottle in the sand for him to find. After meeting up they found they got on but due to his age (18) after the romance he felt sick but still felt that he fancied this guy. After moving in with this guy he noticed that money was going missing in their apartment (300 quid here and there) but didnt suspect his boyfriend. When they went to france and met a friend of his Bryan was told that she was actually her boyfriend, which was strange but again he was young and oblivious to it all. Anyway this guy stayed at his parents house with him (his parents thought he was just a friend at the time) but when his grandmas purse had money stolen they all though she was making it up. It was only when his sisters stuff was going missing and some of his money started to dissapear that he realised something was fishy but again love was blind for him. Anyway he told his parents a lie and said he had a job abroad in spain, however he didnt but in the end got a job as a holiday rep in spain with this bloke. He wasnt happy after a bit due to the thieving which was obviously taking place (on the last day he was there £500 went missing in his apartment) and basically broke up but then met up again back at his parents. house. There was a lot to the story so I`ve missed out loads!, but basically one day this guy tried to kill him and he said he never felt so sick in all his life. He described the sliding windows you can have in a house and how this guy tried to strangle him to death and generally beat him up (he spoke about this before in the relationship but as he was young he presumed it was the normal thing which happened in relationships). Anyway after this guy had nearly killed him scotland yard was involved and apparently this guy was wanted since he was 18 for a string of offences. Brian also spoke of his alcoholism all through this and the fact he had a bottle of vodka and drank it neat under his bed and that he has been clean now for 2 years. Narinder spoke how she was racially abused at school, basically asking out boys at school and being told that they dont go out with 'pakis'. Being the only asian in a north east school was very hard but this she said made her head strong. She wanted to show people that she could become someone and talked a lot about how she wont take any shit from anyone due to her past. She also talked about her husband and the fact they have split up but recently got back together. Even though shes fancied many english men she has finally accepted that her life belongs within her own religion/colour. Bubble was next I think but started to break down after the words 'the thing which changed my life was when my daughter opened my heart'. He obviously needed to go outside for a smoke, and Amma followed with Elisabeth/Stuart. Stuart comforted Bubble and then Elisabeth gave Bubble a big hug to cheer him up. Stuart said to him that he didnt have to be so specific if it upset him so much. Amma was also upset outside and obviously has had things in her life which she would rather forget too. After they both calmed down they both went back in. Penny's personal experience started off saying that she was sexually abused from a very early age when she lived abroad (her mum was german I think) but then they moved away when there was a war on in this country but the guy who sexually abused her was killed in the war. Her uncle was a bronze olympic medalist and she trained every day in the pool which gave her something to focus on. She also talked about how doctors thought she was a man because she had no breast tissue even at 20 and her periods werent totally normal. She had a breast operation at the age of 30 but talked about how she was let down by one of her first boyfriends who understood what she was going through only to find out he had been sleeping with her and another girl for the past 2 years. She said due to her personal life she was very insecure which is why she is so independent and appears too self suffcient for her own good which puts off future boyfriends, because their attitude is that they are not needed. She also talked about her pupils at the girls school and the fact she took time to not only teach them but to socialise with them too and prepare them for womanhood because she didnt have this when she was young and yet it was so important for girls to respect themselves at that time in the their lives. Bubble then started off saying that he had been a nasty person and that in life he did everything to get to the top although he loved his current job. He didnt go into any details but spoke about his marriage breakup and the fact he payed little attention to his daughter until one day she said to him that she wanted to play. His attitude then was for her to sit in front of the TV (probably when he was on drugs/alcohol) but his daughter said no I want to play with my daddy. This he said was when he realised that he had been neglecting his precious daughter but didnt go into any real specific details because obviously he was very upset about talking about it. Obviously now he is making up for his past by spending more time with his daugther and maybe buying presents for her to make up for the early years when he said he wasnt a nice person. Amma was the last person to speak and she apologised that she would waffle and not go into specifics. She talked about being bullied at a horrible school and thinking that she was ugly and some piece of dirt for many years. When she moved to a better school something happened when she was 17? I think but she said she ddnt want to talk about it. She had a termination at the age of 19 (someone asked if this was related to the incident she didnt want to talk about but Amma said no). This was the turning point in her life when she started to table dance, people were interested in her and she started to believe that life could and would get better. Amma waffled a lot but you could tell she wasnt happy talking about her previous life, only for the fact that now in the past 1.5 years she respects herself and has the confidence to do things she wants. Bryan/Narinder/Penny talked afterwards and wondered if Amma had been raped but they all pretty much went to bed early although they first had a game of volleyball in the garden. Sorry if I skipped a lot of the dialogue/facts or got the people in the wrong order but some of them went on for 20 mins or so and Bryans/Pennys/Ammas & Bubbles personal history in particular has obviously affected them in a big way. Also I typed this out in about 5 minutes because Im such a fast typer! so ignore the spelling/grammar etc!..time for bed p.s stupid board only allows 10000 characters so I had to carry on with a reply to my topic post! doh |
