Odd Problem

Hi, not sure if anyone has seen this fault before?

I've had my phone line with Tiscali, and broadband and had no problems what so ever until Friday. I then notices that when talking on the phone there's a cracking noise when the other person is talking, but they can hear me fine! Also my broadband speed has dropped from about 4.5mbps, to around 512kbps.

I've logged a fault with Tiscali and there looking into it, but last night I tried a few things at home to see what the problem could be, I change filters, sockets. phones, router on and off, and still the same problem.

Then I tried plugging the phone in with no filter and router, so just a standard old phone, no power, and straight into the main socket and the problem reversed, I could hear them fine but now I'm cracking when talking.

If anyone has seen this, or knows what this could be I'd be good to know,

Cheers.

have you tried using the standard corded phone in the test socket of your main phone point(remove 2 small screws and the faceplate comes off to reveal another socket).
if still noisy then report a noisy fault with the provider of your phoneline.
if not, then possibly problem with your internal wiring.

Definitely a line fault.

I've had the same problem twice this year.

Report the line fault

Don't let the engineer try and tell you it's your PC set up.

If the engineer insists that the line is OK, insist that they use a gizmo called "Hawk" to locate the fault.

Cheers. I dont have a socket within a socket as I would have tried that.

There's an engineer coming tomorrow so I'm hoping that something will show up.
