Just got some free mintues from Vodafone bit randomly lol... anyone else got the same text?

Here's the text...
Quote:
“As a thank you from Vodafone you now have 100 FREE minutes to enjoy over the next 30 days - you don't need to do anything. To stop texts send STOP to 9774.”

I'm sure I've seen that 9774 number before. I've had texts which say they're from Vodafone but when I try to open them, instead of being able to read the text I just get the message "downloading message... download failed". So whatever they're trying to tell me, I never find out.

all the promotional texts i get from vod come from 9774. They send a lot of mms so maybe that's your problem.

Got the text yesterday at first I just thought it was a scam, I mean even I spoof texts.

However checked my balance it there is 100 mins and 00 secs allowance. Saw my Mom today and she had the same text come through yesterday and checked her balance.

We are with others in the family on the Vodafone family (6), so rarely call anyone else as we usually use the landline with the inclusive evening and weekend calls you get for no extra fee.

Wondering if this is a softener due to all the complaints Vodafone are receiving about the change to the PAYT tariff (though you can be put back on the previous tariff when it changes).

With all due respect, fellow Yorkshire person, that's cobblers. Addresses aren't "blacklisted" - people are either a good or a bad risk. You either have a crap credit history or no credit history, which is why they won't give you a contract.

If there are people at your address who have a poor credit history or CCJs etc. and you think this might be affecting you getting credit yourself then you should get a copy of your credit file (via Experian or Equifax or the other one{!}) and check if they are "associated" with you - if they are then you need to confirm they shouldn't be. Only costs £2 to get a copy of your credit file - Google Equifax for more info.

My credit record is clean, however my address isnt, I still get letters and debt collection visits that are for previous tenants at this address, including a unsettled vodafone debt, which it appears is the problem as the debt can't be struck off from the address until vodafone have tracked down the person who owes the money. Standard credit control practice, and I should know as I am one!!!!

But that's not you! You do need to get your file checked as it seems there is an association to you - not to the address. Anyone at that address is automatically assumed to be associated to you unless you specify they are not. If they are not resident at that address then they shouldn't appear as an association on your file.

Are you on the electoral roll at that address? - and are they? (still). If you aren't then you should be sure you are and that it is up to date with the current residents!!

"the debt can't be struck off from the address until vodafone have tracked down the person who owes the money."

That's their problem, not yours! Vodafone shouldn't be "blacklisting" you as the debt is not yours - regardless of the address associated with that debt. I would definitely speak to them - it has got to be worth it with the amount you are paying on PAYG!

There is no such thing as a "blacklisted" address, just incorrect information on credit files and wrongly associated debts. Under the Consumer Credit Act. debts are personal - not geographic and those holding information on credit files have a duty to make sure it is correct.

Get a copy of your file - however "clean" it is and check for errors and incorrect associations. It could also be TOO clean - no history gives them nothing to make a risk assessment on.

Business CC differs from consumer CC massively, because of the Consumer Credit Act - which are you involved in?

addresses can be blacklisted, i worked for a company who turned down several customers simply because a previous tentant/owner owed them money.

A lot of companies do this, it is wrong!

Some will overide it if you provide proof of ownership or tenancy but some will not.

It is against the terms of the Consumer Credit Act and if caught they can have their Consumer Credit Licence revoked! Debts are personal - not address based.
