Can anyone answer..why is it that when you have no signal but then reset the handset..a signal appears?

I've never seen this happen. Does it happen with your current phone or has it always happened? What phones does this happen on?

It would suggest there has been a problem with the handover. The phone is still looking for the old transmitter, thinking that it isnt ready to find a new one... Handovers on GSM/UMTS networks is supposed to be done only when absolutely neccessary.

If you call your mobile company with a signal problem, they'll often get you to reboot 10 times or so to force it to find the new one.

I was wondering whether that might be the case. I've only experienced this once when travelling by train. I can imagine that if you lived in an area on the border of two "cells" it might happpen quite often.
