I'm talking about the ready meals which package 3 items together, say, for Indian meals, a main dish, a side dish and some bread.

My question is why are ones for one person so rare? Waitrose do them but only the largest Sainsbury's seem to. I'm not sure about Tesco.

It is annoying to see something attractive looking then noticing that it is for two. Even I am not so much of a pig as to eat one of these on my own. Buying the separate components also tends to produce a meal too large for one.

They obviously make more money selling this way. I cook for 3 normally yet chicken breasts are in packs of 2 or 4. When i'm in America I cook for 4 yet they package their chicken breasts in packs of 3. Weird!

True. Even the buns specifically meant for burgers.

They do one in Asda, I think it's called Indian Banquet. It's a frozen 'Extra Special' range thing. I haven't tried it but it looks nice. I think it has rice, potatoes, chicken curry and a naan.

I find that a single dish from Sainsbury's or M&S (eg a vegetable curry) is just right for one person. Then maybe have two samosas (either bought individually from the deli counter or half a pack of four) and a nan or some rice. The only leftover would be the half pack of samosas which can be frozen. I know it doesn't give you a "multi-component" meal but it's OK and not expensive.
