Is it possible to use the TopUpTV Thomson DVR to record programs from sources other than Freeview ?

We have a separate satellite receiver, is it possible to link the satellite receiver and the DVR so the satellite programs can be recorded onto the DVR ?

PVRs record a video stream pre-encoded direct from transmission. So, no, it's not possible with the Thomson to record from another video source.

I have a freeview DVD recorder (LG RHT-397H) and this will record both freeview and external inputs in a variety of qualities. Even for freeview this box appears to recode to DVD-compatible standard as you can copy off quicker than realtime to DVD.

What's quite nice is that it takes incoming subtitles and puts them into DVD format too so if you give someone a disc of stuff off freeview they can turn subtitles on. Also starts the record off when the programme starts if it's late.

Sounds useful.

It would be handy if the Thomson did record from other video sources, but I guess it would need additional hardward to encode the incoming video signal to MPEG2 to record it.

That would make it a lot more expensive
