Sorry it's a bit of a specialised request but hopefully there is someone here who might be in the know! I am going to be spending a month in Germany and my accomodation won't have internet access. I need to be able to access the internet on my laptop so I was thinking either mobile internet or wi-fi.

I have an Orange phone contract, and I can add on one of their travel data bundles, 10mb for £12. This would work, my phone has hsdpa which I have checked will work roaming where I will be, I can connect my phone to my laptop and use my phone as a modem. But 10mb will hardly last me a day, nevermind a whole month!

Maybe I could get my phone unlocked, put a German network PAYG sim card in and do it that way. Does anyone know about German networks and if there are any offering payg bundles for what I need? I can't get a contract because I'll only be there for a month.

Or is wi-fi an option? Are cities in Germany covered by wi-fi services that I could subscribe to?
