transferring avi format to my PC
EMT948
27-07-2008
I have a Fuji compact which I use to record short video pieces on and then transfer into their Finepix software. Until recently it worked fine, but now I can't. My PC does not appear to recognise the format at all. The software just hangs then when I shut it down sends an error report to Msoft.

I've tried it using WMedia player too, still the same

Any ideas please?

It is possible that your M-JPEG codec which is the Avi format that the camera saves in has become corrupt & maybe worth reinstalling the codec & drivers.

Also have you installed a windows system update recently ?.

My updates are set to auto, so it's quite possible.

Where would I get this codec from?

thanks

This pack will give you the every codec under the sun . This may cure the problem. Also it maybe worth downloading the latest drivers for your camera as well as the updated finepix software.

Sadly no, even now having every codec known to man. I have mooched about a bit on some camera forums and it seems that I'm not the only one. It looks like it maybe a Fuji camera problem.

I think it best to buy an Xd card reader.

Thanks for asking

Damn, I had a problem with a Fuji Fine Pix 301 years ago, you would think that they would've sorted any bugs by now .

Best of luck with it.

CODEC packs ...... eugh. (Although klite is one of the better ones but still)

Dropping a massive bundle of CODEC's on top of a system which is already having problems in this area can often cause more problems than it solves.

Rathing than dumping a pack on there and hoping for the best, you be better off trying to identify the individual CODEC and sorting it on it's own.

Try installing GSpot and pointing at one of the videos from your camera, see what it thinks is in there.

http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Once you identify whats in there, you can try installing a specific CODEC to target the problem.

Have you tried playing it in VLC player? Plays most things you can throw at it.

Are you able to just drag and drop the videos from your camera to your pc. I have a fuji finepix and I can do that by clicking advanced user mode when the finepix transferring wizard pops up.
