Ipod problems

I bought an 8GB MP3 player on fleabay. It turned up and looks like an Ipod and has the Apple logo on it. The box says it is an Ipod Nano. (It could be a pirate, I suppose.)

I downloaded Itunes to my laptop, then plugged in the Ipod with the USB connector. The Ipod screen lit up with the Apple logo and gave me a menu.

My laptop recognises that I have a removable disk attached but doesn't install it as an Ipod. Itunes doesn't show it as an attached device.

If I disconnect from the USB cable the Ipod switches off and no pressing of buttons will fire it up. Reattaching with the USB cable sparks it up.

Should I bin it? Maybe I am doing something wrong?

OK, Chris, I'll see if I can get some good pictures and post them. I suspect it is a fake. It was advertised as a replica.

No need for pics.

It's a fake.

You probably don't need iTunes ... in fact, if it's a fake, it probably won't work with iTunes.

More than likely you just drag and drop to put music on it.

It's a fake ... fair enough, I had my money refunded by the seller. However, if I could turn it on without being connected to the USB port on my laptop then I could make use of it.

Any thoughts?
