Phoning on behalf of vodafone
GWJT06

Hey

I'm around a year through my 18 month contract with vodafone and I got a call from "them" today saying my contract was coming to an end and giving me upgrade options. I was in the middle of something so couldn't question the guy on the phone, but phoned vodafone later who said they don't have any record of the call and it was probably another company phoning on their behalf. I don't understand this, what would've happened if I'd accepted the upgrade from the person who said he was from vodafone?
Cheers

Sounds really suspicious I would only upgrade through the network direct or known retailers.

This happens all the time - with dodgy companies "fronting" as the operator. The worst culprit I've had is The Mobile Phone Company on Merseyside - they are forever calling me up saying they "are calling from Orange" and "your contract expires shortly"- which is a total LIE.

I only deal directly with Orange - suggest you deal direct with Vodafone and not via one of these cowboy conmen they will tie you into a new contract in the guise of an "upgrade".

If you complained to Vodafone then ask them for a form to report these guys - that's what Orange offered me. They said they gather the complaints and ultimately refuse to deal with some of these cowboys.

Mobile contracts have dodgy written all over them.

You're better off with sim only deals or PAYG in my opinion.

Just to put one thing straight.

MPC are a reputable company, that mainly deal with business customers.

These dealers are able to UPG you early in your contract for which they then get a commission.

Sorry, but my opinion remains the same - A Company with DODGY practices, bordering on dishonest and certainly shady;

"I'm calling from Orange" - Oh no you aren't and you are misrepresenting yourself for your advantage - NOT MINE. Note - not "on behalf of Orange" but "from Orange" - I am VERY clear on this - they say they ARE Orange - no doubt. Changed their bloody tune when I told them I had recorded the last call AND played it back to them- proof enough for me!! I passed this on to Orange - of course.

"Your contract expires next month" - Oh no it doesn't, it was renewed 2 months ago - if you really WERE calling from Orange then you'd know that.

Shows me they are a bunch of opportunist liars who try it on. How many poor sods get fooled by these lies and end up in new contracts they don't want - just so these crooks can earn some commission.

Orange seem to have a department solely to deal with these misrepresentation cases and were very interested in my experiences with MPC!!

If they are such a "reputable" company then how come they KEEP calling, day after day after day and won't take NO-SOD OFF for an answer??

Crooks and liars - in my opinion.

Vodafone didn't seem that bothered to be honest, but interestingly enough the company didn't withhold their number, so may give Ofcom a quick call and report them. I'm sure it contravenes something as least, impersonating another company.

sounds fishy, just remember not to give out any personal and/or financial details over the phone!

anyway, if you are currently with a company and they phone you, they will already have your details anyway!

..by the way, im just posting this as a reminder, not trying to patronize!
