Hi i hope i can explain this well enough

i have an old nokia and i am on orange pay as you go.

i went to Barcelona and when i arrived i got a message from orange saying it noticed i was there and informed me of the charges for using my phone while abroad, and a little arrow appeared at the top of my screen i thought it was because i was using it abroad so just ignored the little arrow because i couldn't seem to access it anyway

well this was 8 months ago and i still have the little arrow at top of screen by where a little envelope appears if i have a text message or a spool if i have a voice message.

does anyone know what the little arrow is and does anyone know how i can get rid of it ?

i think that's just your call log saying you have a missed call although by this time you must have checked them at some point. Just go to your call log (press the green button) and go left or right to check your missed calls. Either that or its something else.

get the manual out, it will have a list of what the icons mean..

if you no longer have the manual, search for it on the web, you should be able to find the manual for it, maybe from nokia.com

Sounds to me like call divert.

I had that with an older phone. One day, I was playing around and turned off voicemail. When I turned it back on again, the arrow appeared.

In your case, I'm guessing the roaming service somehow disrupted your phone's settings. Orange probably have divert settings such as...

Default (on with no symbol)
On
Off

I would either call Orange on 450 or reset the phone.

5210 Instructions can be found here.
The arrow is indeed to do with call divert.
Hope this helps
