I brought this player from argos at the weekend and it's been ok apart from one little problem. It pauses without me even touching the control. At first I thought I'd accidently lent on the control but it even happens if the control is on top of the tv away from me. It happens a couple of times each hour. I also come home from work turn on the tv, choose guide and it says 'guide not avaliable while timeshifting' So it's doing it even when I'm not home.
Is it enough to take it back for an exchange?

Take it back. Sounds like a knackered pause button, prolly on the front of the unit. You could try prodding it a bit, but you will prolly need to take it back. This is not a common fault for this unit.

My dads pretty handy with machines, is there anything he might be able to do? He did press the pause button on the unit a few times earlier and it was fine for a while after that.

I have the Digihome DTR160 model and the problem that you are experiencing has not happend on my STB, it sounds like you may have a faulty unit.

I'd take it back to Argos for an exchange.

Just to reinforce above advice:

Definitely faulty, do take it back for exchange. I've had 3 Digihomes in various guises, none have had that fault.
