I have just been given some fresh figs. How long do they last? Do I keep them in the fridge or will they dull the flavour (like with onions and tomatoes)?

If they are already soft and squishy, eat asap.

If they are still firm at touch, you can keep them in the fridge, in a paper bag. Depending on how firm they are, they can last up to a week. If they are already opened, or soft to the touch, eat them with some Parma ham...................

I had some fresh figs in Egypt once... my they awful. I have had fresh figs before and they were nice but these weren't. I think it was because they weren't ripe, but when you ate them it felt as if they were sucking all the moisture out of your mouth and just tasted like you were eating rock.

We were out there for a wedding though (a relative was marrying an Egyptian and we all went for the wedding) and the figs were given to us by his family so I persevered and ate them out of gratitude.

Sorry... that was in no way helpful to the op, I just wanted to share.
