does anyone know the best way of getting hold of the new iphone? Does it make any difference whatsoever if I buy it from carphone, o2, or apple shop? Do they still have you credit checking yourself when you get home or do they do it instore now?

You can't get it in a Apple store any more as far as i'm aware.

Makes no difference if you get it from O2 or CPW, the credit check is done in store so all you do when you get home is put the sim card in the phone and connect to itunes.

For the record i got my 16GB iPhone from the local O2 store.

You can get it from apple stores and infact they have tended to have stock when the other two haven't during the stock crisis

The credit check is now done at point of sale rather than on activation

Also if you want the white version of the 16GB iPhone 3G you can only get it at Apple stores - for the time being at least (no official word on when it will be available from O2 and CPW).

I wasn't aware of that, Stock from O2 and CPW haven't been that bad where I am, I just popped in on my day off and got a 16GB iPhone without any issues.

You have to pass a credit check for all mobile phone contracts. Its the way it works.

Apple stores are for customers new to O2 only.

Upgrades must be either O2 or CPW.

Because when you get any phone on a contract, you are being given the potential to run up a huge bill which is a form of credit.
