If I try to download a file larger than 6MB the download cuts off.
I'm not sure if it is the phone (N73) or provider (O2 PAYG) or browser (Opera Mini).

I think it's actually a time limit on files with o2, and it's between 10-15 minutes. Use the resume function in oper and you'll be fine.

Every phone has a download limit. Either because of memory limitations or just because the manufacturer chose that maximum. It varies hugely, with some phones having a limit of 100KBytes. Other phones are limited only by how big a buffer will fit in RAM.

I think the resume function has been corrupted by an installed app. It was working at first but not anymore. Trouble is I don't know what app did it and don't want to do a reset.

I tried Opera Mini mod but it still treated the file as fully download at 6MB even tho it was a 10MB file.
Something has mucked up the resume function on the phone.

Will a Factory Reset help? What data will I lose? Contacts, app installs, etc.

How can you say its nothing to do with the phone when you admit to knowing nothing about Symbian phones. There simply isn't enough information (in the OP's post) for anyone to decide exactly what is happening. Its therefore a good idea for us to list the options.

Anothe option is the the phones JVM will set a maximum data size (RMS file) for an app.

As for O2 having a timed download limit, I have used the Napster service on a SE W810i, which downloads tracks over GPRS. Some of these have taken longer than 15minutes.

I've been with o2 long enough, used enough phones and spoken to enough people to know o2 has a timed dl limit. Doesn't matter about the phone.

Is it just a particular file it happens with or all 6mb files? Java mini opera needs you to resume it yourself.

Any file that is over 6mb.
It was ok at first, i could download files that were over 6mb with no problems, but then something changed and now the phone treats a file as downloaded once it reachs 6mb. (actually 6.??mb but I forget exact amount).
Resume used to work which is why I think the function has been corrupted by another application.
I'm trying to avoid a Factory Reset Btw.

If it was working previously, that would imply that it is nothing to do with any "timed download limit". Can I ask which version of Opera Mini you are using? As I understand it only the illegal mod version has a resume function and this uses some rather suspect Russian servers which may explain your issues.

I only use the mod to test my connection if Mini 4.1 doesnt work.
It happens with the phone's browser as well.

There can be corruption of Opera Mini if you exit the program without using the EXIT option. I had a look at the specs of the N73, it may be that your RAM has been used up. Can you uninstall Opera Mini, then turn off the phone, removing the battery and SIM. Leave the phone for ten minutes before re-assembling and then re-installing Opera Mini. Hope it works.

No good, I'm afraid. It still cuts off at 6088kB.
Looks like I'll have to do a Factory Reset.
