Poached eggs a la microwave...
I really like poached eggs but the thing is I cannot stand the clearing up afterwards because the egg protein sticks remarkably well to the pan and it takes ages to get off.
Last week, I tried something else. I got the plastic poached egg cups, put a bit of vegetable oil in them and oiled the sides and then I cracked the eggs into the cups. This time though, I placed the now filled poached egg cups on the microwave plate and closed the door. I found that using the microwave for about five minutes on medium power setting works best for me. The sign that they are done is when the egg white really does all turn white and when bubbling starts around the edges. The result was perfectly edible poached eggs and a much easier clean up operation. I just thought I had better share this with other Forum Members. |

I spray a bit of lite frying oil in the microwave poacher do-dah and it works a treat.

Thanks for the tip. I might give that a go.
One thing I do NOT recommend, however, is a microwave omelette maker. The texture is nasty and more importantly it sticks to the plastic and makes a lot of mess. I chucked mine in the bin after one use. |

I used to use the so called poaching pans with little cups to put the eggs in, but now find it much easier to do them in a pan of boiling water, just like they should be done. They don't look like perfect hemispheres, but there's less cleaning up to do.

If eggs aren't whisked before they are microwaved they blow up.

Just pierce the yolk a couple of times!
And I never pierce the yolk - just crack the egg into the cups and put it in until the white is almost completely white, and the egg will still be runny as I like it. |

Pah, do them in a pan of water. A little splash of vinegar and oil in the water and stir the pan just before putting the egg in. This creates a vortex effect in the centre of the pan and keeps the egg there as well.
