Texan style baked beans
It is my OH's birthday next weekend and we are having a US style BBQ with sticky spare ribs, slaw, potato salad etc and he really wants a variation of the US style baked beans we had on a recent trip there.
However i am not really going to have the time (or inclination) to soak my own beans etc and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to using tinned baked beans but adding various flavours- help appreciated!

I'm from Texas and this recipe looks pretty authentic. You can use Heinz baked beans instead of "Pork and Beans" (there really isn't much pork in them anyway). I'd back off on the sugar. That sounds like a lot and the baked beans here already quite a bit of sugar added.
The crispy cooked bacon would probably be your streaky bacon, cooked until crisp... but you can use regular bacon too. http://www.recipezaar.com/39478 |

You could always make curried beans, simply use a can of baked beans, add 2 tbls of curry paste, add a chopped onion, and some spinach if you have some.
