When you open the link... the story is different

The suspense is killing
Sep 7 2003 6:15PM We have said goodbye to three of the final five Housemates. Warona, Gaetano and Tapuwa have gone. The last two Housemates are waiting to hear the news. There is no escape. Only one of them will take the big prize. Which one will it be?

The audience shouts for both of them. There is still now sign of the final victor. Mark shows them their highlights' package. Soon, soon we will know who the final winner of the first ever Big Brother Africa contest is.

One Continent. One winner! Who will it be? The suspense is killing!!

From BBA web site...

Cherise Makubale from Zambia walks away with USD100 000 and the title of ultimate winner of Big Brother Africa 2003. The atmosphere was electric and emotions could not be contained as Mark made the announcement. Cherise, the crowd and no doubt Cherise's fans all over Africa went absolutely wild.

Mwisho, the runner up and by no means a loser, came out of the House to be greeted by appreciative fans and family. He certainly didn't look like he was disappointed by the result, and will no doubt be reaping the rewards of being Africa's send most popular Housemate. On the other hand, he'll probably take comfort in knowing that he couldn’t have lost to a better winner. And then it was time for the winner to walk the red carpet, this time one of glory.

Congratulations Cherise! Africa could not have chosen a better winner, and her fans and family could not have agreed more. She not only walks away with a lot of money and prestige, but Cherise can take pride in being the most loved Housemate in all Africa.

For those interested, here's how/what they did with Cameron:

After 30 minutes or so of the usual build-up they went into the house to talk to the remaining housemates. Interestingly, they asked Tapuwa if she was attracted to Cameron. She said a little. They asked her why she put his sheets on her bed. She did not really answer.

Next, they introduced the former housemates, by order of eviction. after that, they had a video of the house pets.

They then introduced the 13th housemate and winner of BBUK. They showed him his highlights package in the BBA house (including a clip of him saying how beautiful Tapuwa was). He seemed to enjoy this.

His interview questions were:
what must the housemates be feeling like right now (he said: It's hell for them and everyone is thinking it's someone else who's won it.)

Have you spent your 70000 pounds. "a little bit of it."

What are your plans for the money: "Spend it."

He stayed in the sidelines on the stage as the rest. He did seem to talk to the rest easily. When Tapuwa came out, I noticed she positioned herself near him. When Cherise won, she and he hugged quite fondly.

(But, I saw cameron chatting to tapuwa finally at the end of the show during Femi Kuti's performance.)

Sorry, no Ray.

I think I liked Cherise so well done. Good to hear Gae got kicked out early. No-one in Africa would be as surprised as .... Gae . He isnt that nice a guy.

well done Cherise.

Any news on BB Africa 2. I'd guess the plan is for South Africa to return to their domestic version next year with Endemol hoping other African nations launch their own versions.

Also, how was the final broadcast - must have been a long show with 5 contestants.

The show was pretty good-2 hours, but pretty rushed. They're playing a repeat of it now, and I just noticed that when Gae came out, Cameron was pointing out Ray to Gae. He must have been there in the crowd.

Brekkie Boy,
To answer your question, I'm betting that you will definitely see BBA2 next year. I highly doubt there will be another domestic SA version for a bit, nor a version in other countries any time soon. BBA came about as BBSA kept getting won by white males, it was rather embarrassing to DSTV, who is trying to gain the African market beyond South Africa.

Africa did an excellent job in picking the winner this year, and I think it's given them (endemol/Mnet/DSTV) a confirmation that this was a very good move. Cherise wasn't my favorite throughout, but she was definitely the most deserving winner.

I think I'll go back to lurking now. You guys crack me up with the Cameron rages.....

Also, how did the voting work. I know for evictions, each country representing a housemate had one vote (the HM with the most votes in that country), with other countries forming a 13th vote, but with 5 housemates being evicted in one go, I imagine the voting procedure was quite complicated.

Oh my. Here's the breakdown of the results:

Gaetano: won the Uganda vote (1)

Warona: won the Botswana and 13th country vote (2)

Tapuwa: won the Zimbabwe and Angola vote (2)

Mwisho: won the Tanzania and Malawi vote (2)

Cherise: won Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, South Africa, Kenya, and Namibia vote (6)

The ties between Warona, Tapuwa and Mwisho meant that they had to add up the percentages won in each country vote to determine who had the higher overall percentage of the vote.
