Sony SVR S500 Problem

I have a problem with Sony Freeview Player, takes ages to get to Welcome Screen and then an age to tell me No Chn, all channels have gone, if I enter Setup and do a scan the saving seems to freeze, or never saves data.
Also when you press a button on the remote it takes ages to respond, but eventually when you get into setup you can move up and down the menu's
Is the Hard drive the fault and can I replace or is the unit terminal and dustbin time.

Regards john

They are only repairable to PCB replacement levels, and out of warranty aren't worth doing - it might be worth trying a drive, and see if that helps.

I've got one sat here with one tuner input duff (won't work on some frequencies), which is a shame.

Had a look at the Hard Drive, its a Maxtor 6L08OPO 80gb, the drive looks faulty as if I connect to my Computer the drive is not seen in windows, whereas another similar drive is seen in the same header.
I can get a Maxtor drive similar but are there any system or driver files stored on it to make the Sony player work etc.

No, you just need to format it from the system software.
