KEANE - Perfect Symmetry (13/10/08) - The OFFICIAL thread
Thought it was about time Keane fans had one place they could congregate and talk about their upcoming third studio album. Keane fans seem hard to find on here (maybe there aren't many!
) so I created this thread. Anyway I downloaded the free single 'Spiralling' yesterday and it certainly seems different. I am still undecided on it to be honest although it is definitely a catchy one. Reminds me of 'Is It Any Wonder?' for some reason. That turned out to me my least favourite track on UtIS. So I guess I'm waiting for 'Lovers Are Losing' now. Anyway you can still download the song from here until 11am on the 11th August.

Hello Homer. You've found yourself a fellow Keane fan lol.
![]() I was a bit unsure about Spiralling on first listen, but it's grown on me so much now, and I love it. His singing style on that track reminds me so much of The Killers for some reason. Can't wait for the new album - I've loved the last two!! |

Another Keane admirer here. I thought Spiralling was a good song but the production was a bit offputting, especially the retro guitars at the start.

I love the new single. I once listened to Keane all the time but over the last few years I've found myself not so much... but if the new album is as good as I hope it is it'll get me right back into them.

So, the 13th has arrived! I was lucky enough to be watching them live when it launched at midnight and get my album signed.
Perfect Symmetry (the track) is possibly the best thing they've ever done. Some songs on the album I'm still a little unsure of, but there's some real gems too. This weeks number 1 album surely? Anyone else got it yet? |

Heard most tracks on Youtube. Will buy it tomorrow. Just been to our Tesco and they haven't had the new releases in yet this week.

I've had this on constant repeat all day. Very impressed indeed. Love the 80s sound, it's very James/New Order, and there's even a hint of Bowie in places, and it just works really well. After being very disappointed with Under The Iron Sea, this album has really restored my faith in the band. I hope they have a lot of success with it.

Hope it knocks Oasis off No.1 this week. Oasis sold 200,866 this week so assuming a 50% drop then can Keane beat 100k?

Well I had my first listen today, and I'm not sure what to say really. I think this album is one that needs a good few listens to truly appreciate somehow. That said, I'm already going back for repeat listens to "Again & Again" and the rather brilliant "Black Burning Heart" (such a good song!!). That's not to say these are the best, but they're definitely the ones that caught my attention on first listen. Will have to play the whole thing again tomorrow and get to know some of the other tracks. "Love Is The End" sounds like it has potential to be one of my favourites too.

I pre-ordered my copy, won't be doing that again! I've heard most of the tracks in clips but it really sounds good what I've heard.

I think it's safe to say a big new release like Keane will get to number one.

Got this on Saturday thanks to HMV. Love the album, as soon as I had finished hearing it, I put it on again to hear it all through again.

Midweek Sales:
1 Keane 2 Oasis Keane are 5,000 ahead. . . .which is pretty shocking considering it's a brand new release. Could be as a result of reviews like this : NME horrid 2 out of 10 rating. http://www.nme.com/reviews/keane/9953 They can be really harsh sometimes with their reviews and I don't know why people still buy it. |

Just got the album and am enjoying it. For me the first 4 tracks are the best.

Its true, whether you like Keane or not, whether the album is good or not - that is not a professional review! "same as any other Keane album" Surely all the Albums are very different?

I think this album is rather dull I'm afraid. After the first few relatively lively tracks it all becomes a bit one-dimensional and nothing really grabs me. The trouble I'm having is that it's just nowhere near as catchy, charming, inventive, danceable or fun to listen to as other 80's influenced albums I've heard this year from the likes of Mystery Jets, Late of the Pier, Friendly Fires and Cut Copy.

Enjoying it so far! Black Burning Heart stands out already. I really didn't 'get' Spiralling the few times I heard it on the radio but now it's on the ipod it sounds fantastic. So I think the rest are going to grow on me pretty fast.
Some of the songs sound very similar to certain tracks from Under The Iron Sea, but done better.

I like it...been a Keane fan for years. The track"better than this" for some reason has a bowie, or maybe even a roxy music feel to it for me (what do i know)
Enjoying it and worth the wait. |

Enjoying it and worth the wait. The riff is like that from Bowie's Ashes To Ashes. |
