Sony HDR-TG3E - HD Camcorder

Just bought this tiny device.. It feels superb, but was wondering if I can use a standard card reader to copy off the movie files from the 4Gb card directly to the computer? i.e. without having to dock the unit and/or without bothering to load up the Sony software. Just wanted to clear the card without using the device, but the files look like they will not open in any of the editing applications. Does Sony use proprietary encoding? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

shouldn't see why not, I know they use a special type of flash card but I shouldn't see why the pc wouldn't read the card as normal.

Problem is I use a Mac... Which shouldn't really be an issue, but just looking again the files from the camera are not avi's, mpegs or even dv files.. they look bespoke. bugga'.. did't wanna have to load up the Sony stuff. Cheers anyway.
