Split-NIT and Vestel T810 / Digihome PVR
StoppingService

Hi

Has anyone out there spontaneously re-scanned their Vestel T810 (Digihome PVR80/160) so as to tune into BBC World Service on its new mux?

What was the outcome? Which version of firmware do you have?

I don't want to take the risk with my "graded" PVR80 v5.6, as I've been delighted with its performance throughout the two months since purchase - and I'm not about to euthanise it after such a short marriage. Searching the official Digital Tick database, I have found that this model does not have the tick - a disincentive to re-scan one!

BTW, forum members report that Philips, Pace and Pioneer OnDigital STBs are OK to rescan in the presence of the split-NIT.

Warning: This appeal is addressed only to those who've already re-scanned since the split-NIT began from their transmitter. In the absence of any confirmation to the contrary, a re-scan now may render your T810 useless!

I haven't re-scanned mine yet, but I will tonight as the box is still under warrenty.

The problem doesn't just affect BBC WS. Every set will have to be re-scanned following the digital switchover as even the existing Freeview transmitters will be changing frequency at that point.
I'd rather find out now whilst I can return the box than wait another 12 months to find out if I've got a brick.

Did a manual re-scan last without any problems.

All OK to go ahead and ready for next August. I'm looking forward to the increased power.

V5.3 PVR80 rescanned against Pontop Pike OK.
BBC World Service (710) now on MUX B.

A box's absence from the digital tick database does not necessarily mean that it will have a problem with the split-NIT change.

According to
http://www.freeview.co.uk/help/faq/id104963

Set- top boxes: Daewoo DS608P, Labgear DTT100, Triax DVB 2000T, Portland DP100
Combined set-top box and video recorder: Daewoo SV900, Bush IDVCR01

are the affected boxes. I wonder how exhaustive this list is?

Thanks for the valuable information, guys.

It's missing the Echostar T-101FTA and Bush DFTA3!

True, but it does effectively extinguish a consumer's opportunity to win a CCJ against their retailer under the Sale of Goods Act.

v5.6 has a much improved EPG population speed ; I wonder if its behaviour with the split-NIT is the same as v5.3?

I've not noticed any deterioration in HDDR's operation; if there's been any change, the EPG is quicker to populate, esp. beyond 3 days ahead. I have employed the technique of deleting from the tuning memory, unwanted channels, so as to preserve RAM - so that may be an alternative explanation!

The EPG information populates most quickly for channels broadcast on the mux which was being viewed when Guide is pressed. So, to view EPG info for ITV channels ASAP, view channel 3, 6, 10 or 28 immediately beforehand!”

I described how I connected-up to upgrade my PVR80 in this post. I still have the v5.6 firmware in my archive.

I've just rooted out some serial cables from the loft and flashed my PVR80 with v5.6 (which has been sitting on my PC since March).

Now to see if I can spot any differences from v5.3 ...

I have v5.3 and a small bug has surfaced in the EPG since the BBC decided to flag 303 and 305 as hidden channels. You find may that the radio listings are 2 channels out. For example, Radio 1 has Radio 2 shows listed.
If you use a favourites list without 303 or 305, the problem doesn't appear.
I suppose they will ever broadcast v5.6 for the PVR80 will they?

BTW I upgraded to a 2.5 inch samsung drive, and once i figured out i needed a 40 to 44 pin cable, its much much better, virtually silent, i actually use the thing now, couldn't stand the whine before.

V5.6 exhibits the same EPG "2 channels out" problem (most noticable if you go beyond the highest channel so it wraps back round to BBC1 - the TV channels are then also out of sync)

Again use of favourites avoids the problem though.

My T816 has the radio channels issue as well. Has anyone found this on a T825?

Yes, I've found it on my Asda Onn 160GB T825 - sometimes it can be a couple of channels out on the epg - i.e. the header info on the lhs might say BBC7 but the program info is for R5 live or something. Usually coming out of the epg and going back in cures the problem
