Panasonic DMR EZ27 DVD recorder
Hi,
New to this so bare with me, I need some help....I have recently purchased a EZ27 dvd recorder from Panasonic. I have a HD tv (Veira ) and this is hooked up to SKYHD box and Bose surround system powered by a JVC AV reciever. I had a normal DVD player before and this was connected to the system by coaxle cables to the back of the AV reciever and to the TV by scart....and worked perfect. I always used the AV reciever always showed Prologic on the screen with surround sound on. I connected up the EZ27 the same way ....no joy, I then used a HDMI cable, EZ27 to TV, and the surround sound ceased to work properly on DVD playback...TV sound worked fine. I read the manual once again and tried connecting the EZ27 and AV reciever by optical cable. Now its appears that the rear speakers are not working properly and also it appears that the only setting it uses is "Multi" on the AV screen. Can anyone out there tell me what I am doing wrong and what is the simpliest way to connect this EZ27 to my existing equipment.

dead easy : 2 x Phono audio out from TV to you Hi-fi . No other inputs required to Hi-fi . All other AV ( Hdmi & scart ) to the TV . Therefore whatever you have on the TV will be also fed to the Hi-Fi .

You should connect either the coax or optical audio out on the DVD player to the AV receiver - and the HDMI to the TV (if it is HD-Ready). There are two other possibilities, but it requires your HiFi supports HDMI properly: 1. connect HDMI to AV Receiver, then connect HDMI out on AV Receiver to the TV. 2. connect HDMI direct to TV then take a Digital COAX or optical audio OUTPUT on the TV to the AV receiver. What is your AV receiver, anyway? You might need to set up your AV receiver in some way if any of the above don't seem to work immediately. Of course, if it is an old AV receiver that can't process digital audio, then I take it all back. You won't be able to play Dolby digital or DTS audio streams anyway - and two channel surround (ie dolby surround/pro-logic) is the best you can do. |

I theory yes you are right in that my method might not be pure didital audio in but a bet you cant tell the difference !
And there are no issues with lip sync due to the time that the amp takes to process the info ! Ian |

>>my method might not be pure didital [sic] audio <<
Surely you can't get DD5.1 or DTS down 2 x phono audio plugs? I assure you that I *can* tell the difference between Dolby Surround and Dolby Digital or DTS!

AV Reciever
Its a JVC RX7001 PGD.....but still does the trick. Quote:
I really couldn't recommend this if you have a AV receiver with digital audio in. The method described above would seriously degrade the quality of the sound.
