Not for everyday meals, not for buttering bread, just steak.

So why do so many homes and restaurants put them out for general use?

Honestly, I despair sometimes.

You can use them to mince steak, the ones I've got you can anyway, sharp as razors.

Yes - you could use them on a Pork Chop - and no... there's no special knives for Pork chops.

At a pinch, you could also use Steak Knives on Lamb Chops as well..... quell suprise!!

It's a knife. It's even one for cutting food.

Who cares if it cuts a sausage instead of a steak? Ok, you do... I certainly don't

You argue with a woman holding a steak knife at your peril.

OK Thanks.

What about gammon steak with pineapple & chips? Should I use a different knife for the pineapple and the chips? And what if I had a fried egg instead of the pineapple?

was it in the 60s ??? Vol-a-vents are very retro.

P.s. - is that how you spell Vol-a-vent ?

It was about 10 years ago - but was in Bournemouth!
The place was quite trendy though so it was likely to be retro-chique.

It is how I spell vol-a-vent - but come to think of it, it should probably be vol-au-vent

Do you need to cut vol au vents? I just shove the whole thing in my mouth and wash it down with some lager.

Is this not the correct etiquette? I wouldn't want to ruin my social standing at the rotary club.

Lol - very classy. I can just imagine the dribble of lager and prawns running down you chops and onto your paisley shirt

Smart arse.
The serrated edge on a steak knife is there to cut through the tougher fibres in a beef steak.
For most other meats a straight smooth-edged well sharpened, (with a butchers steel for preference), knife should suffice.
