How to defragment an ipod disc?
Had some problems with my ipod and ended up restoring it but have had trouble copying all my music back onto it. Couple of times it stopped with an error message halfway through saying the disc could not be copied from or written to. Managed to get everything synced in the end, found a few tracks that would not play properly but deleted them and copied them again and they seem to be alright now. Thought I'd see if you could defragment the disc at the same time but Windows disk defragmenter will not handle it,presumably because the file system is Fat 32 and not NTFS. Is there another defragmenter utility that will handle it,indeed has anyone on here tried to defragment their ipod disc and can it be done safely?

A quick search on defrag ipod indicates that 1) it has been done many times; 2)it doesn't matter that it is in fat32.
So maybe the disk needs a repair. 'disk repair ipod' comes up with a few utilities you can try. |

such errors are not defrag solvable.
format that drive and perhaps the bad sectors will be marked as bad. or not. its worth a try. disc corruption could mean disk is near death. |

Better not be near death, haven't had it that long and haven't really used it heavily either.
