I am just about to buy a panny blu-ray player DMP-BD30K to go with my new panny LCD TV TX-37LZD800, which is great.

I am buying a region 2, but have been told blu-ray players are regionalised as A, B or C. If so then why isn't it advertised as A, B or C. Any help or comments would be appreciated.

Also can I upgrade region 2 (or whatever) to region free.

Thanks in anticipation.

If your buying it in the UK then it will be the correct region for the uk i.e. "B" if buying from the US it will be "A"

It can be made region free for SD DVD by a remote hack from a special remote which you can either buy or hire which I think is around £15 -£20? (or can be bought MR from various suppliers) it can also be modded by adding a kit & some fine soldering, think the kit is around £60.

To be honest though you can buy a more technically up to date BD player in the form of a Samsung BD P1500 for £174 from Amazon.co.uk or wait till next month & buy the Sony BD S350 for £195 from the same source.

This Dutch company has a BD30 with the Blu Ray hacked:

Or you can buy a kit from some dealers and poke around in your brand new Blu Ray player with a soldering iron.

I'm going to wait a month or so and see if other dealers offer fully hacked players at competitive prices.

If you feel the need to buy Panasonic then it might be worth waiting a month or so as the new BD35 will be out, this has a new processor which is supposed to be much better & it will be BD live enabled (Profile 2). It will also have an effect on the current BD30 price wise you should see it drop considerably more in line with the Samsung & Sony which will both ultimately be profile 2.

If you do go for the BD30 & want region free for SD DVD this is the type of remote you need to make it MR; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/panasonic-remo...QQcmdZViewItem
