How to operate 2 Humax with 2 remote controls

If i had two Humax PVRs next to each other, is there a way of controlling one PVR with the remote without effecting the other PVR?

I would say not m8 because both the infa-red remotes would be operating on the same frequency wouldnt they and you cannot change the frequency they work on
(or ya could tape the sensor up on the other one but then ya would not be able to use that one untill ya swopped the sticky tape to the other sensor )

I use a piece of black plastic - actually part of an old video tape box. I've cut it in an 'L' shape and put a little magnetic strip to hold it on the top of the Hummy.

On the part that hangs down the front and covers the Hummy IR rec I've stuck an IR remote'magic eye from a wireless sender. £27 from Tesco.

All I do is to move the strip to cover the box not in use in the lounge and I can watch and control the other Hummy from another room.

Worked well for us for over 2 years.

I'm hoping that the Freesat Hummy PVR doesn't use the same remote codes as the 9200!

If you were clever you'd devise a remotely operated solenoid to flip the bits of black plastic up and down.

and if the PVRs are side-by-side or stacked a single solenoid could be linked to operate both simultaneously..

You use a programmable universal remote control that can control devices by both infra red (IR) and radio frequency (RF).

You program the remote control to operate one Hummy directly via IR only, and operate the other Hummy via RF only. For the latter you also need a receiver unit that receives the RF and converts the signals into IR that is emitted via a small emitter unit that you stick to the front of the second Hummy. In this way both Hummies can be in the same room, but each can be controlled independently. If you want, you could put both Hummies in a cupboard and operate both via RF.

I believe that the most expensive Logitech unit can do this, but I was not keen on the styling, so I went for the Universal Remote Control Inc (that's a US company) "Aeros 850" remote control, plus "MRF 250" receiver unit (about £120 and £40 respectively from Ebay).

The Aeros 850 can control up to a total of 20 devices, and you program it using a very slick Windows application. The MRF 250 can support 6 devices (and you can use more than one MRF 250 if you need to control more than 6 devices via RF).

Universal Remote Control Inc can be found here:

Be advised that they have not been without controversy in the last couple of years, due to a change in their support policy. The following is a good site for discussions of remote controls, where you can find out more about this:
