Slow Cookers
I bought one a few weeks ago and have used it for coq au vin, beef stew and I even throw in chilli or bolognaise and cook that for a few hours in it. I was wondering whether anyone here had one and what they've found to be successful in theirs.
Yes, I can Google and I have bought cookbooks but it's not the same as word of mouth! Thank you.

Slow cookers are very popular in the USA, they call them crockpots. This lady has a blog, she has a recipe for every day of the year!

![]() Anyway I put a joint of beef in, bizarre! It was so tender that it just fell apart when I tried to carve it. My kids were having to ask for lumps instead of slices.

Brisket of beef is a really cheap cut and it does really well in the slow cooker. Takes a long time tho but the cost isn't too much despite the time and power used.
Anything that needs long slow cooking such as stew or rice is brilliant in them. The meat or vegetables are really tender. I do find if you want beef slices, you are better oven roasting the joint. |

I love my slow cooker - but i tend to only use it in the winter.
I love browning joints in the pan, and then slow cooking them for about 11hrs. They are soooo blummin tender. I have about 3 cookery books, and one in particular was very good. I think i tried 3-4 recipes out of it last year, mainly chicken / beef stews etc ...... but i cant get enough of the joints !! I also like the fact that you can buy cheaper meat, and it turns out beautifully. I went off supermarket joints of beef as they were chewy and nasty, but shove them in the slow cooker - and its delicious. |
